As a member of the executive committee and self-proclaimed weather geek, Bryson plays a key role in the overall business strategy for The Weather Company. As head of the technology group, Bryson oversees the strategic vision, technical direction, execution and operations of all technology initiatives, systems and platforms across all of the company’s four divisions – TV, digital, professional and international.

His team oversees the architecture, global infrastructure, weather forecasting and big data platforms, broadcast engineering and TV localization systems, all of the company’s internal systems as well as overall quality assurance for all products and platforms. The technical platform his team has built provides all frameworks, data, tools and processes necessary to build, deploy and operate globally scalable B2B, B2C and B2B2C products and services. Through the design, implementation and global operations of industry leading cloud-based computing capabilities, large scale big data systems, the company’s internal and external APIs, live and digital video personalization technology for web, cable, satellite and telecommunication distributors, The Weather Company has transformed itself into a leading technology powerhouse.

Bryson brings a passion for change and innovation by sitting at the strategy table for both business and technology groups within large and small enterprises. He uses his 20+ years of experience to help companies transform their business capabilities and utilize elegantly simple solutions that are always focused on maximizing the business goals of the company. Bryson has and is serving on many customer advisory boards, including Verizon Business, Genesys, Revinate, Microsoft, Google, Akamai & HCL. He was selected by the Executive Alliance as the Quality Leadership Executive of the Year in 2007, and in 2010 Bryson was recognized by CIO magazine as One to Watch with an additional standout award for innovation. Bryson lead IHG to become ranked #2 on InformationWeek’s Top 500 innovative technology companies for the development of patent-pending inventory management systems his team developed. In 2013 Bryson was given the ATP Innovation of the Year award. In 2014 Bryson lead The Weather Company to be named as a top 10-technology company in the state of Georgia and has been nominated as CIO of the Year by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association.

Bryson earned his double bachelor’s degrees in political science and communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has lived in the Atlanta area for 15 years, is married and has five children. He is active in his community and has served as the co-captain for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), executive sponsor of the Women In Technology (WIT) program in Atlanta, and is the chief of his son’s Indian Guides program with the YMCA. Bryson also is on the Board of Directors for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, The Technology Association of Georgia and San Francisco-based Revinate.

Jay Ferro / American Cancer Society

Jay is currently Chief Information Officer for the American Cancer Society (ACS), a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the American Cancer Society has more than 900 local offices nationwide and a presence in more than 5,100 communities. Jay is responsible for the people, strategy and operations of the Global Information Technology organization.

Prior to joining ACS in 2012, Jay served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for AdCare Health Systems, a rapidly growing and recognized innovator in health care facility management. Jay spent the previous 7 years at AIG (American International Group), most recently as VP and CIO for AIG Aerospace, a leading global aerospace insurer. At AIG, Jay implemented numerous improvements that have delivered substantial value to the organization while managing significant organizational change in a turbulent market environment. In addition to his role as AVP of Information Technology with AIG Personal Lines, Jay was selected as CFO for Operations and Systems in 2006 and led multiple global IT Finance and Governance Standards initiatives that resulted in millions of dollars in savings for the organization.

Jay continues to be a thought leader in the Information Technology arena and is a frequent guest speaker and panelist, both in Atlanta and Nationwide. In recognition of his accomplishments, Jay was selected as Georgia CIO of the Year in 2011, and is currently serving as Chair for the Georgia CIO Leadership Association.

His commitment and dedication to community involvement is evidenced by the time and energy he contributes. In 2007, he founded the non-profit group, Priscilla’s Promise, in honor of his late wife, which raises funds for cervical cancer education and research, and currently serves as its Executive Director. In 2011 he was elected to the Board of Directors for TechBridge, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization which helps other nonprofits use technology to improve their capability to serve the community, and in 2013 was named Board Chair.

Jay earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and his Masters of Business Administration from The University of Georgia. Jay continues to be involved with his alma mater, both as a mentor for young alumni and as a member of the Alumni Board of Directors for the Terry College of Business.

Jay lives in the Metro Atlanta Area with his 3 sons: Trey, Connor and Alex.

Heath Padgett and his wife Alyssa are on a mission to travel across America and work one hourly-paying job in each of the 50 states. Traveling in their refurbished RV, the Padgetts look to shine a spotlight on the millions of hourly workers that currently do not get the recognition they deserve for their dedication and hard work. Working alongside hundreds of hourly workers, Heath will learn what it takes to succeed, and sometimes fail, in 50 different work environments.

Doc Waldrop brings more than 30 years of experience in theatrical lighting and overall technical production to the meetings, special events, convention, motion picture, and association industries.

His lighting designs and installations have gathered praise and awards from international and Fortune 500 companies and have been featured in many industry and related magazines. He has held an executive board position, including Chapter President in 2004-2005, with the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the International Special Events Society and was recently honored with the 2008 Bob Blaesing Lifetime Achievement Award from ISES/NACE Atlanta. Doc is a founding member of Full Circle Lighting and Productions.

In his spare time (what little there is of it), Doc enjoys ripping up mountain roads on his Triumph Speed Triple motorcycle, chasing his son around, NASCAR racing, or playing a competitive game of pool, darts, croquet, or golf (OK, so the golf game could hardly be called competitive). Mr. Waldrop currently resides in Marietta, GA, but can often be found wherever his clients take him.

My love for this piece of my job led me to seek out a position with a full service special event company and soon she I coordinating corporate picnics and family days for groups up to 20,000 at The Fun Company. However, my passion for sales and marketing, along with a passion for fabulous food, ultimately led to my current position as the Director of Taste Experiences at TEP Catering.

Mr. Bijan Khosravi is an entrepreneur, investor, and executive. For over 25 years he has found-ed and led new companies as well as served in numerous executive positions. Most recently, Mr. Khosravi founded InBounce, a full lifecycle angel investment and management consulting firm to help entrepreneurs create successful ventures.

Prior to Inbounce, Mr. Khosravi was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Cartiza, a Boston based 4G wireless company he founded in 2006 with Comcast.

In 2000, Mr. Khosravi founded Movaz Networks, the only successful optical start-up post the telecom bubble. The company merged with ADVA Opical Networking, Inc in 2006. At the time of the merger, the company was generating $100M revenue annually from over 50 customers. Mr. Khosravi was Chairman and CEO of Movaz, and oversaw Movaz’s rapid growth to become a global supplier to some of the world’s biggest telecom service providers.

Prior to Movaz Networks, Mr. Khosravi co-founded Siara Systems by working closely with Vinod Khosla from Kleiner Perkins. The company developed the first Multi Service Platform product, and in 2000, Siara Systems was acquired by Redback for a record setting $4.3B.

Veteran Owned Small Business, Part II

Finishing out our two-part series on veteran small business owners (VOSB), we had Dorna Werdelin, supplier relations, communications and outreach manager at the Georgia Department of Administrative Services, and co-host Cassius Butts, SBA regional administrator in the studio. Listen in to hear about the opportunities, challenges and trends veterans encounter as they turn to entrepreneurship as a viable career path. Dorna Werdelin / Georgia Department of Administrative Services

Dorna Werdelin is the communications outreach manager with the Georgia Department of Administrative Services State Purchasing Division. She is responsible for official communications, marketing of statewide contracts and supplier relations. Mrs. Werdelin is also the Georgia Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certification official, and conducts several monthly training sessions for companies wishing to do business with the State of Georgia government, acting as a dedicated resource to those businesses.

Mrs. Werdelin has worked with the State of Georgia government for almost 10 years, formerly as the assistant director of the Georgia Leadership Institute and Enterprise Learning Division at the State Personnel Administration, managing training contract and the training function in the state.

Prior to her work with the state, she was employed at what was the largest oil refinery in the Western Hemisphere, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. As the deputy information officer and HR specialist, she was a government liaison, and was responsible for organizational training, ERP training, employee relocation and orientation, and community outreach programs. She serves as a mentor to teenaged and college-bound girls in her community, and is an advocate for disabled military veterans and fathers’ rights. She is a certified Caregiver, married to a Wounded Warrior and has three sons.

 

 

Trade Show Radio Broadcasts LIVE from the Metro Chamber Health IT Summit

On November 19, 2014, Trade Show Radio was live at the Metro Chamber Rooftop for a VIP Cocktail Party kicking off the Health IT Leadership Summit.

The Health IT Leadership Summit was founded in 2010 by three organizations to support the growth of the health IT industry: the Georgia Dept. of Economic Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Technology Association of Georgia’s Health Society.

The Summit offers attendees a full day of informational sessions, exhibits and networking opportunities. It also includes special awards, including the Intel Innovation Award; and the Metro Atlanta Chamber Phoenix Awards for Entrepreneur Startup Company of the Year, Emerging Company of the Year, Community Service Partner of the Year, and University Advancement of the Year. The Health IT Student Innovation Award, which recognizes student health IT achievements across Georgia, is also presented.
