GMA Gets Serious to Talk About Domestic Violence in the Workplace
Dana and Elizabeth tackle a topic no one wants to talk about as they are joined in the downtown studio by Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) President and CEO Meagan Fulmer and PADV board member and Kaiser Permanente HR Exec Linda Boatright.
The conversation focused on the recent 2012 Domestic Violence in the Workplace Conference held in Atlanta and the effects that domestic violence has, not only on the emotional well being of employees, but also on the bottom line for companies. Meagan and Linda shared some staggering statistics and discussed what is being done to both raise awareness and to try to eradicate the problem. Here are some of the statistics that were discussed:
- Domestic violence in the workplace results in 8 million missed workdays each year
- Female victims have 20% higher healthcare premiums for 5 yrs following an incident
- In Georgia, 74% of domestic violence victims murdered in 2010 worked full-time outside the home
- 1 in every 4 women in the U.S. are affected by domestic violence during their lifetime

Atlanta Rugby on the World Stage
On Tuesday October 30th, 2012, Elizabeth Gordon, host of Burr & Forman’s Results Matter radio on Business RadioX®, was joined by attorney Gary Farris and three Atlanta area rugby players past and present to discuss the sport.
Armand Vari who used to play with Atlanta Old White and now runs the Atlanta Rugby Foundation, Jim Turner who played professionally in Great Britain and now coaches youth rugby and heads up the Phoenix Rugby Club and Min Cho, the current hooker for Old White joined Elizabeth and Gary to talk about the growing interest in rugby in the US and specifically in Atlanta.
Min Cho, an aerospace engineer in his professional life, explained that in the US, rugby is considered an amateur sport but that there are very well respected amatuer programs in the world like Argentina and the US wants to dominate in that space. He also talked about the brand new field where Old White plays and said it is one of the best in the US.
Jim Turner added that both parents and kids are getting more interested in rugby now that it will officially be back in the Olympics in 2016 and because more and more colleges are offering scholarship money for rugby players both male and female.
Armand Vari talked about the personal and professional relationships he has built through his connection to the sport and highlighted the commitment the former players have to keeping the team going. It was because of that commitment he explained, that the Atlanta Rugby Foundation was formed and that the group was able to build the new field solely with donations from the alumni players.
Downtown Development Day and the 20th Anniversary US-Russia Business Council Meeting Featured on GMA
Hosts Dana Barrett and Elizabeth Gordon were joined in studio by AJ Robinson and Wilma Sothern from Central Atlanta Progress and Wayne Lord, President of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. AJ and Wilma talked about Downtown Development Day which will be held on Wednesday November 7th at AmericasMart. Wayne Lord, who in addition to heading up the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, is also a professor of International Executive Education at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, joined Dana and Elizabeth for a discussion of the headlines and to talk about the US-Russia Business Council 20th Annual Meeting which was just held in Atlanta.

After their usual run down of the Atlanta business news headlines, Elizabeth and Dana talked with Matt about the lifestyle and amenities at Pencil Factory Lofts while Doug talked about his decision to open his new restaurant, The Drafting Table there.
