The PHX Sampler was created April 20th in an effort to introduce customers to local food and craft vendors they may not yet know by curating ‘sampler’ deliveries. Due to the changes being faced in the current marketplace, they want to ensure shoppers still have access to new and innovative local small businesses.

Some of their vendor partners can be found at valley farmers markets, select grocery stores, restaurants, via delivery or shipping. Included partners are featured on the website thephxsampler.com, with their website or other contact information. That way, when a shopper finds their new favorite items via a sampler, they are then able to purchase additional items directly from that creator!

Vendor selection is growing weekly to continue to introduce repeat shoppers to new businesses. Deliveries are completed no contact style on Sundays for those orders placed by Noon on the Thursday prior.

Alexhandra Hotko is a graduate of ASU’s Design Management program and has over 10 years of corporate retail and wholesale experience, primarily in the footwear industry.

After that time in the footwear industry, and having not set aspirational goals for several years, she decided it was time to start her own business in 2016.

Hotko Bread Co focuses on Bohemian baked goods from Alexhandra’s family recipes. Her breads and pastries can be found at farmers markets, special events, but lately primarily baked to order and dropped at the customer’s door.

Jennifer Burwell and Kyle McIntosh co-hosted their first episode of MAC6 Community Connection Radio Show and Podcast on May 13th at Phoenix Business Radio X. One of their new Co-manufacturing community members, Kia Alborz from Starship Technologies, joined them on air.

Since the beginning of the COVID 19 Pandemic, Starship made the shift from serving college campuses to serving local communities by delivering contact-free groceries and food from local stores and restaurants using robots. Talk about a pivot and innovation right?!

Starship Technologies’ delivery robots operate commercially on a daily basis around the world. The robots use a combination of sophisticated machine learning, artificial intelligence and sensors to travel on sidewalks and navigate around obstacles. The computer vision-based navigation helps the robots to map their environment to the nearest inch.

The robots can cross streets, climb curbs, travel at night and operate in a variety of weather conditions. A team of humans can also monitor their progress remotely and can take control at a moment’s notice.

The robots have traveled over 500,000 miles, crossed more than 5 million streets and completed more than 100,000 commercial deliveries.

Kia Alborz is Starship’s Launch and Expansions Manager. Kia graduated from Austin College in Sherman TX and St. Mary’s law school in San Antonio Texas and litigated for several years prior to working with startups.

Kia began launching markets for Lime, the micromobility company, directly prior to joining Starship.

Windy City Equipment specializes in Commercial Facilities Maintenance such as HVAC, Refrigeration, and Cooking Equipment. Founded in 2003 by Joel Zolin, they have been serving the Phoenix area for 17 years.

Joel’s son, Josh, took over as CEO in 2017 and has since expanded the company footprint to Tucson, AZ & Houston, TX. WCE also started a Youtube channel that offers how-to videos, podcasts, vlogs, and other industry-related information.

WCE has made the Inc 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America the past two years running, 2018 & 2019.

Joel Zolin started his career in equipment repair at Imperial Baking Co in Chicago, IL. After years of working 80 hour weeks, he decided to take his talents elsewhere. So he went to HVAC/R school and decided to move to sunny Arizona. From there he spent a few months with a local company before his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and he decided to open the doors to Windy City Equipment.

From 2004 to 2008 he ran the business by himself, knocking on doors, and making connections. His front room was his office, and his garage was his shop. Little did he know that he was building the foundation for what would soon become one of the fastest-growing companies in the US.

Josh Zolin came on with Windy City Equipment in 2008 as a service technician and worked his way through the ranks to eventually become CEO in 2017. His passion for the skilled trades spread through the company and enabled him to create a team of industry professionals that have exceeded the expectations of many.

Eventually, that passion manifested in the form of a book, Blue is the New White, which was published in May 2019. Josh has made it a personal mission to educate America’s youth on the opportunities that exist in the skilled trades in hopes of closing the skills gap, reducing student loan debt, and ultimately enabling the success of millions.

In addition to running WCE, Josh now speaks around the country to industry professionals and educational institutions about the trades. In the free time that he does have to spend, he enjoys the company of his wife and two daughters.
