For the past 23 years the Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank has been faithfully serving the people of the southwest valley. Their mission, as a faith based non-profit organization, is to provide services to families and individuals in the southwest valley who are hungry, in need, or facing crisis. AFFCB has two locations, Avondale and Tonopah, with a variety of programs and services, some shared, some unique. At each location, they offer monthly emergency food boxes and access to their clothing bank. In Avondale, they also provide monthly food boxes for seniors and infants, they have a shower on site for bathing, and they offer hygiene products and daily lunches for
individuals. 2017AFFCBLogo

Each year, AFFCB partners with other local agencies and churches to collect and distribute school supplies (Backpacks & More) in July, Thanksgiving meals in November, and Christmas food and gifts (Toys & More) in December. All their programs and services are only contingent on need and residency. Individuals seeking assistance at the Avondale or Tonopah location must have proof of residence in a neighboring city (Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye, Tolleson, Cashion, or Litchfield Park – or – Tonopah, Arlington, Palo Verde, or Harquahala, respectively).

WHY BEST OF HEALTH?

I am a Physician Assistant who has been caring for patients for over 20 years and Family Practice (cradle to grave) is my specialty.

Following the footsteps of three generations of family practice physicians (my father, grandfather and great grandfather) this was a natural and genetic calling that I do not regret.

Given this, I have a unique perspective and it’s time to share that perspective through Ask the PA. As a health care provider, teacher, business owner, patient, and advocate for my family and friends throughout the years, it has been painfully apparent there are disconnects within the current state of health care in the US and throughout the world. It can be confusing and frankly very scary.

It is my goal though this series, Best of Health, to bring people together that are passionate about their roles in the business of health care… and yes, whether or not you want to hear that it’s a business, it is — and that’s the fact. I will introduce to you great, dedicated practitioners and people with a passion for getting the word out about their personal journeys and causes. I will provide information about navigating through a confusing system, asking the right questions and share ways for saving money and time along the way.

It’s time to create change by partnering, empowering, and focusing on the patient, their families and their providers of care. It’s time for you to take the driver’s seat rather than leave your health care solely in the hands of entities such as insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry.

Stay tuned. Here’s to your Best of Health.

Single Cavegirl with Blogger and Photographer Moriah Sawtelle

Filled with bright photos, funny anecdotes, and fool-proof recipes, The Single Cavegirl is a Paleo cooking blog bringing you three fresh, easy recipes each week. Blogger Moriah Sawtelle focuses on creating single skillet meals from real food ingredients that won’t break the bank. Eating healthy can be expensive and challenging, but it doesn’t have to be.

The Single Cavegirl logo

The Single Cavegirl is about more than just food. For Moriah, Paleo is what helps her fight her autoimmune disease, and gives her the energy to do the things she loves. Her blog aims to show that Paleo can be completely realistic, even with a busy lifestyle, and can help improve overall health.

Moriah-Sawtelle-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXMoriah Sawtelle is a web designer, food photographer, and the blogger behind singlecavegirl.com. Recently, she also became the author of her first cookbook, Skillet Life. Ultimately, she just loves spending time creating things.

Moriah was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in her early teens, and has spent the decade since learning how to make gluten free and dairy free cooking fit in a busy lifestyle. More recently, she made a switch to complete Paleo cooking as a means of healing leaky gut (a common issue for individuals with autoimmune disease.) Her blog shares her recipes and shows how to live with autoimmune disease without letting it define your limits.

If she’s not cooking, designing, or taking pictures, you’ll probably find her standing in line for coffee, or hiking with her dog Hudson.
