Sunny Brown, Comedienne
Sunny’s charismatic, bubbly blonde personality always comes shining through in everything she does to the delight of her audiences, readers and fans.
Even though as a child she was always making her family laugh, and they always called her “Gracie” (a nod to the great comedienne Gracie Allen), she was a “Late Bloomer” and did not actually realize her talent for comedy until she was 47 years old. It was at this time that she had a life changing epiphany, an experience that changed the course of her life, and she took an unexpected pivot into comedy.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama Sunny studied dance at Birmingham-Southern College under the acclaimed teachers Mira Popovich and Ruth Ammons Henry as well as voice under the renowned instructor Andrew Gainey. She danced professionally with the Birmingham Stallions professional dance team, the “Fillies”, as well as touring in shows with Seventeen Magazine.
She was signed with the L’Agence Modeling Agency in Miami/Atlanta which lead to working internationally by signing with the Cosmopolitan Modeling Agency in Osaka, Japan. Upon returning home to Birmingham, Sunny married award winning professional photographer, Billy Brown. Unexpectedly she was asked to perform the lead role in a theatre production of “Born Yesterday” and received rave reviews for her comedic turn starring as the “dumb blonde”, Billie Dawn. (She still didn’t realize that she had a gift for comedy!)
Other starring roles in comedy followed and after years of working on the stage and in front of the camera she took an extended hiatus from performing to raise her two children. It was during this time that she began to try blogging. She began writing for Sashay Magazine and now writes a monthly humor column for B-Metro Magazine. After becoming an “Empty Nester” she decided it was time to return to the stage.
Sunny wrote and performed her one-woman show “Confessions of a Glamorous Mind” debuting at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre, based on the popular essays from her magazine column. Her comedic talent won her the monthly talent competition at the well respected Stardome Comedy Club and she was invited back to perform on their main stage.
Sunny joined forces with three other lovely ladies of laughter and they frequently perform to sold-out audiences as the all-female comedy variety act “Feminine Hyjinx”. She wrote and starred in her latest show “An Invisible Woman ~ the disappearing act of a woman over 50!” and again premiered it at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre to outstanding success.
Sunny believes that laughter can unify and heel and has lent her talents for many philanthropic organizations.
