The Crawford Long Museum provides educational exhibits about the life and career of Dr. Crawford Long, the physician who, on March 30, 1842 first used ether for surgical anesthesia. The mid-1800s general store reflects the past culture of Jackson County and the Development of Anesthesia gallery includes displays of early inhalation devices and 11 machines that span almost of century from 1842 to advanced modern operating technology.
