MIND MONEY MOTION Anna Sparks with Sparks Systems and Chrissy Barth with Nutrition Lifestyle Education
The registered dietitian shared the importance of a wholistic approach to improving diet with an emphasis on pro-biotic rich foods (fermented) and high fiber foods (plant based foods) along with the advice to identify 1-3 specific actions to tackle at a time. The exercise physiologist explained a metabolic approach to optimize blood sugar in our body by focusing on two fuel tanks and using breathe to calm our brains via exercise.
Both guests boiled down sensible advice for exercise and nutrition with a logical and understandable explanation with examples as to how and why our gut health and brain health are related along with what we can do about it. Better diet and exercise really gets us to improved health, quality of life, and longevity, who doesn’t want that?
Sparks Systems is a health and performance coaching company that helps clients be the best that they can be by optimizing metabolic efficiency in an effort to enhance their performance and quality of life through nutrition, movement and breathing.
Sparks provides a way to measure metabolism and then creates a plan that will move each client towards metabolic efficiency. Metabolic Testing is the only true way to know if your body is efficiency using its internal stores of fat and carbohydrate. The test is simple and takes about 30 – 45 minutes. The result is a detailed report of exactly how much fat and carbohydrate you burn at rest as well as at different intensities of exercise.
It’s a simple test, much like blood work, that will help you understand your baseline Metabolic Efficiency and more importantly, help the Sparks System Team assign you a Sparks Score as well as understand if your nutrition program is working or not.
Anna Sparks is certified MET Level 1, Metabolic Efficiency Training Specialist (METS) which is defined as a systematic nutrition and exercise approach to improving the body’s ability to use its internal stores of nutrients, specically carbohydrate and fat.
Anna has more than 16 years of experience as a personal health and performance coach, from collegiate athletic teams to one-on-one training. She received her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and master’s in exercise physiology from the University of Mississippi, where she also played soccer and served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach in the Ole Miss athletic department. She also worked as with Olympic swimmers at Auburn University while earning her master’s, and after graduation joined the University of Arkansas as an assistant soccer coach for the Lady Razorbacks.
Anna’s love for soccer eventually brought her to the Valley to coach Arizona State University’s soccer team in 2008. It wasn’t long after moving to Phoenix that she realized
her love for cycling and triathlons, transitioning to competitive cycling in 2009. She competed in the women’s professional peloton for six years, racing in events such as the Tour of California.
Today Anna enjoys non-competitive cycling and is an avid hiker.

ABOUT OUR SPONSORS
The Women’s Enterprise Foundation (WEF) is a 501(C)3 charitable organization that supports and inspires women business owners within the greater Phoenix area. For over 10 years we have sponsored women through scholarships and grant funding. Our monthly scholarship applications and bi-annual grant opportunities have assisted over 20 women in 2018 and 2019. These women continue to develop themselves as business leaders. The grants give them the increased capital to help generate greater revenue in their business. Scholarships help support their business growth through leadership and business training. We know when women grow their businesses, they benefit entire communities.
The first Friday in November each year, we hold our annual fundraiser at the Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch. This year our featured guest speaker will be Dr. Connie Mariano, the first military woman to serve as a White House Physician to the President. Info for scholarships and grants, as well as our upcoming event may be found at .
WEF is proud to sponsor Marie Burns in her podcasts, Mind, Money and Motion, that will positively educate women about money habits. We are excited for Marie Burns to spread her message, as it is consistent with the success for women in business, as well as their personal financial growth.
Our financial support of Marie’s grant continues to create a foundation that WEF fosters. We believe that women are the glue for their communities as they participate in, orchestrate and mediate relationships, opportunities and business growth. We are confident that her support and success will multiply and benefit many others.
