THE DAY BEFORE MONDAY Risk Analyst Alaura Skiff with Deb Bond of Avertium
In this episode, we had mentor/mentee pair, Deb Bond (Avertium) and Alaura Skiff, in studio to talk career management and the importance of mentoring to create a more fulfilling career. Increased confidence, more strategic thinking, and even having a mentor/mentee outside of your own company defines this fun conversation with this dynamic duo.
Some of the themes were…why to speak up in meetings, when to leave a bad position, how to identify a potentially great organization, how to identify a good mentor/mentee, and the best way to ask someone to be your mentor. Navigating certain industries can be taxing especially if you don’t have a powerful partner in your corner cheering you on every step of the way.
By the way, one of these women restores classic cars and one shoots arrows in armor. I can’t wait for you to find out which is which.
Alaura Skiff went to ASU West originally to do networking and programming, but fell in love with governance risk and compliance.
She was lucky enough to have a professor who saw her potential in the security field and had her become an RSA security scholar and helped her land the job she’s in now, as a Risk Analyst.
Avertium focuses its comprehensive expertise on supporting mid-to-large enterprises, making it one of the largest managed cybersecurity services companies focused on this market.
Avertium is a leading provider of managed cybersecurity services with more than 150 employees and growing, and security operations centers in Arizona and Tennessee, the company serves more than 1,000 customers in the retail, healthcare, hospitality, financial services, manufacturing and government sectors.

When she is not working, Deb is a console gamer who enjoys playing Destiny online with family and friends, as well as playing ‘sherpa’ to newcomers to the game, helping them learn the ropes in a safe environment.
When she is not gaming with family and friends, she and her husband work together to build and restore old cars as a hobby. She has a fully built show truck which she takes to custom car shows around the state and occasionally out of state.
