Grady Caldwell is originally from Albany, Georgia and attended Albany State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a degree in education. He has always had a passion for helping people. One of his favorite quotes that he lives by is from Muhammad Ali, “Your service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
Grady spent 17 years in public school education where he served in various roles from a teacher to a head basketball coach, to assistant principal and high school principal. In fact, he was on the career path to retire as an educator. However, one single conversation changed the entire trajectory of his passion and his purpose. On May 27, 2018, his parents called for a family meeting with Grady and his sisters. During the course of this meeting, his mother expressed to them that she had been diagnosed with dementia. Three questions immediately came to Grady’s mind, the first was how can a beautiful 68-year-old woman who had an illustrious career working in financial aid all of sudden be diagnosed with dementia? Second, who is going to take care of her as the stages of dementia worsen? Lastly, how are they going to pay for this?
Grady as well as his siblings were extremely busy with their careers and raising their own families and he knew how difficult it is to find quality help. His answers to these questions led him to the bright idea of starting Perennial Angels Homecare as a means to provide quality, in-home care at a cost that is affordable.
