Dr. Kirk Adams and host David Steinmetz talked about changing societal perceptions of the capabilities of people who are blind, transforming corporate cultures to ones of integration rather than differentiation, and building family, school, community, and service providers.
Dr. Kirk Adams stated that 7 out of 10 working age individuals are participating in the workforce while for those who are blind, only about 30% are working.
Dr. Kirk Adams is a Professional Speaker and the founder of Innovative Impact LLC., focusing on groundbreaking, high-impact projects that accelerate the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce and supercharges a company’s bottom line.
Dr. Adams earned his PhD in leadership and change. He is known as a master connector of key decision-makers in government, corporate America, the nonprofit sector, and disability advocates guiding them to create collaborative solutions that have a real impact in increasing the employment of people with disabilities.
Dr. Adams spent his professional career diligently driving the inclusion of people who are blind throughout society. A long white cane user since age six, he attended the Oregon State School for the Blind, and attribute the blindness skills and strong sense of internal agency gained there for much of his success in life. He entered the nonprofit sector through fundraising.
His first nonprofit job was as a development officer for the Seattle Public Library Foundation, raising money for the statewide Talking Book and Braille (NLS) Library. During that time, he earned a Master’s degree in Not-For-Profit Leadership from Seattle University, and earned the Certified Fundraising Executive credential from the Association of Fundraising professionals. He was originally hired by the Seattle Lighthouse to stand up a comprehensive fundraising program and a supporting Foundation and fundraising board.
Moving into the CEO roles at the Lighthouse and AFB, he continuously developed my network of relationships with others interested in the inclusion of people with disabilities. He currently has 4900 friends on Facebook, and 29,000 connections on LinkedIn. In his new role as a consultant, he’s excited about putting his skills, experience, and networks to good use, supporting innovative, impactful projects, like the Inspiration Foundation.

As the manager of Community and Public Relations, David Steinmetz uses his expertise, education, and personal experiences to “change the perception of blindness.”
Diagnosed with RP, a blinding retinal disease, at the age of 19, David uses his personal story to drive change that leads to improved employment outcomes and community integration for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Mr. Steinmetz graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economics. Additionally, Steinmetz has continued his education by graduating from the Business Management Training (BMT) program provided by Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia.
In 2008, David was the national recipient of the National Industries for the Blind Milton J. Samuelson Career Achievement award. This prestigious award recognized Mr. Steinmetz for his career achievements and community service work.
David Steinmetz is a member of the Governors’ Council on Blindness & Visual Impairments, is a Board Member at the Arizona Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ACBVI) and serves his community through the Chandler Lions Club.
