Mayor Jon Howell

Mayor Jon Howell currently serves as Mayor of Jefferson, Georgia. Beyond his role as mayor, he is active in regional and civic affairs; he is a board member of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, representing the City of Jefferson. Under his leadership the city has emphasized advocacy, quality-of-life investments  and sustainable growth. As he has said, “Jefferson is a special place … the charter spells out that the mayor shall serve as the chief advocate for the city, and I take that role very seriously.”  In recognition of civility and leadership, Mayor Howell was also presented the “City of Civility” plaque by the Georgia Municipal Association.

Jefferson is the county seat of Jackson County, located in Northeast Georgia about an hour north of Atlanta. It was founded in the early 1800s on the site of a former Native village known as Thomocoggan and was named in honor of President Thomas Jefferson. Official incorporation followed in 1806, and the city’s courthouse (first built in 1807) helped cement its role as county seat. As of the 2020 census, Jefferson’s population was 13,233, up from 9,432 in 2010 — and more recent estimates place it closer to 16,400.  The city continues to grow at a brisk pace, balancing new development with preservation of historic character.

Jefferson is navigating the challenges and opportunities of rapid growth — attracting new residents and businesses while maintaining its small-town feel and historical roots. Under Mayor Howell’s advocacy, the city aims to continue investing in infrastructure, public services, and community amenities that enhance quality of life.

Ashley & Jacqui Derrick

Ashley Derrick & Jacqui Derrick/Workright, LLC

The Drug Lady is an important team member for any business wishing to create or maintain a Drug Free Workplace. Our “Drug Lady” is powered by two  amazing ladies- a mother-daughter team who have been working together for almost 30 years. Jacqui Derrick developed the original Drugs Don’t Work program in Georgia back in 1994 shortly after the Drug Free Workplace Act was signed into law. Since then, she’s helped hundreds of business owners across the southeast implement and maintain their Drug Free Workplace programs. You can ask anyone- she’s the Original Drug Lady. In 2003 she recognized the need for a dedicated drug testing facility in the Atlanta area to serve employers. We’ve been managing that facility ever since. Her daughter, Ashley, stood no chance. Ashley started helping Jacqui with office work and creating  training programs for younger audiences as a teenager. The two became a staple in the industry, working together to help their clients navigate difficult situations, interpret results, assisting with policy creation and management, and educating teams on how drugs can affect a person as well as their livelihood and those around them. If you’ve got a question, chances are they’ve seen it and have the answer. And if you’ve got a story to tell, even better!

A woman owned and operated small business located in the Atlanta Metro Area specializing in creating and managing Drug-Free Workplace programs for employers. Started in 1999, Workright opened their own testing facility in 2003. They strive to provide their clients with a one stop shop for all their substance abuse program questions and concerns.

Communication, education and safety above all!

Chairman Marty Clark

Marty Clark is a second-generation poultry and cattle farmer and native Jackson Countian.  Raised on the West Jackson farm where he currently resides, Marty graduated from Jackson County Comprehensive High School where he was very active in the FFA program.  Marty joined the United States Navy after graduation and served for four years.  After returning from the Navy, Marty married his wife, Cyndi, and began working more and more on the family farm to help his father.  Realizing how much he enjoyed the work environment; Marty acquired a few head of cattle in 2007 and started raising chickens in 2008.  Today, Clark Hill Farms is home to a number of registered Angus cattle.

In addition to his work in the agricultural world, Marty has also served on numerous boards and committees throughout his life. Prior to being elected as the Jackson County District 5 Commissioner in 2022, he served in numerous capacities, such as as Chairman of the Jackson County Planning Commission, Vice-Chairman of the Jackson County Board of Adjustments, a member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, and Chairman for the Jackson County Agricultural Facility Steering Committee.  Marty was awarded 2016 Top Flock of the Nation from Mar-Jac Poultry and was chosen as the Jackson Herald’s 2018 Newsmaker of the Year due to his strong push to raise 1.2 million dollars for the Jackson County Agricultural Facility.  In 2020, Marty was awarded the Jackson County Community Outreach Community Leadership Award for his civic involvement.  He believes that the biggest asset to any community is the strength and compassion of its citizens.  During his time with the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, he has taken the opportunity to attend as many educational courses as he can through ACCG’s Lifelong Learning Academy, such as: County Government 101, County Government Law, County Government Finance, Economic Development, Ethics, Human Resources, Leadership Institute, Public Safety and Public Health, and Property Appraisal and Taxation.  Marty Clark has accepted or created opportunities for service to the community all of his life; he is a past Master of the Rockwell #191 Masonic Lodge in Hoschton, and he has recently coordinated and still heads up the monthly Jackson County Prayer Breakfast.  Marty has also been described by many as a person “who gets things done.” Marty’s unending work to drive the construction of the Jackson County Agricultural Facility demonstrates that he is a man of vision; a son of Jackson County who can help manage its growth while maintaining the county’s rural identity.

Marty is married to the former Cyndi Hill of Hoschton.  They have two children; Will who is a recent graduate of the United States Naval Academy, stationed in Mayport Florida and Allianne who is a Senior at the University of Georgia.
