Joni Powell – Project AWARE District Coordinator

Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) is a federal grant project that focuses on a holistic approach to providing mental health awareness, activities, and services through family engagement, schools, and our community. Jackson Co. was awarded this grant to support the already great work being done to advance the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. Project Aware is not just a project; it is a commitment. As a Project AWARE award recipient, our goals include: Mental Health literacy for parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and other adults that affect and support school-aged youth. Collaborative relationships with local and state agencies; community connections for youth and families in need. Providing training within our schools and in the community for harm prevention and Mental Health promotion, which will empower the community at large to recognize at-risk youth. Mental Health is a part of the overall wellness of our youth. Project AWARE is committed to recognizing each student as an individual and helping them to achieve goals while providing supports.
