On this past Sunday’s edition of Week In Review (aired on Biz1190AM in Atlanta), Host Dana Barrett aired the following BusinessRadioX clips:

  • From Burr & Forman’s Results Matter Radio Show: Nancy Wright Whatley, Vice President of Entrepreneurial Development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber talking about how the Chamber helps connect small business members to Fortune 100 Companies.
  • From Atlanta Business Radio: CEO of Facdeals and partner at redpepper, Dave McMullen talks about how redpepper has instituted 20% time.
  • From Atlanta Business Radio: A second clip features Dave McMullen explains what Facedeals is (and it scares Dana a little bit!)

Other topics covered on the show:

  • Gov. Deal leading another business mission to China and Japan.
  • BCBS of GA adding 750 new jobs in Atlanta (and Columbus).
  • New list from Money magazine puts 3 Atlanta cities in the Top 50 Best Places to Live.  (Dana begs to differ because all the places on the list are small towns).
  • UGA researchers working on new treatment for breast cancer using nanoparticles.
  • … and lots more!

And on Dana’s personal soapbox:

  • Privacy and technology… where do we draw the line on what to share and who can see it.  If we’re so afraid of people being up in our business, why are we sharing it all on Facebook and Instagram?  AND why are all these teens and twenty-somethings running around taking “selfies” (pictures of themselves)… what is that all about?

Drew Marlar, a partner with the Kutak Rock firm joined Dan Williams from Central Atlanta Progress and Host Dana Barrett to talk about development around Atlanta and federal incentives in place to encourage developers to take on projects in “low income” neighborhoods.  He explained that these neighborhoods are not always what the label “low income” implies and noted that most of downtown Atlanta qualifies.  He also talked about the different incentives for small businesses vs individuals vs large companies.  If you’re thinking about investing in development, or are a developer of any size there is some great info in this interview!

What are the requirements for Trade Show Radio? – Business RadioX

August 17, 2013 by angishields

Lee

5 chairs and an electrical outlet, is the short answer. We’ve had a variety of setups. All a booth really requires is a 6 or 8 foot table, 4 chairs, and access to electricity. It’s also nice to have a stable internet connection, which more and more venues are providing for us at little or no cost. We’ve run the gamut with previous trade shows. We have had some petty elaborate setups that will remind you of Monday Night Football. You can go as high-end or as basic as you wish. It’s pretty flexible for basically any tradeshow, expo, symposium, or conference setup

Stone

Just so you can visualize what it looks like – it can be done in press conference-style where we have 4 or 5 people in a row looking out onto the tradeshow floor. We have a speaker that broadcasts the interviews in and around the booth space – this draws in additional people. Visually seeing people with headphones and microphones also really captures the passerby’s attention.

Lee

One of the really fun things about having the speaker is when you interview someone at 10:00, and then that guest walks back by again at 10:20 and shows their colleagues what they were doing a little while ago. They can hear their interview coming through the PA speaker, because maybe we’re between interviews, getting ready to interview the next person. It’s fun to watch them smile.

Stone

We always have an interview playing throughout the entire conference.

Hepatitis remains a global problem

Hot on the heals of World Hepatitis Day, which was July 28,2013, hepatitis remains a global problem. Viral hepatitis is a disease for both developed and developing countries that causes an estimated 1-3 million deaths globally and can often- well, be prevented! This disease can cause unnecessary suffering. Viral hepatitis is a group of five unrelated viruses (A, B, C, D and E) that can cause both acute and chronic infections, some of which do not cause symptoms and can lay dormant for decades before people learn they are infected. Like some heart diseases, viral hepatitis can be a “silent killer.” Symptoms can later show up and lead to chronic liver disease and even liver cancer long after exposure.

Vaccines are available for Hepatitis A and B. Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B is treatable. Common symptoms of hepatitis infections include nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, jaundice, abdominal pain and dark urine. Transmission of the virus varies as to the virus type. Diagnosis is made through blood tests that can identify the virus. Many acute viral hepatitis infections resolve spontaneously. However, chronic hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis and death. Treatment involves symptom management, drug treatment and in extreme cases, liver transplant.

This segment of The Doctors Roundtable will feature Dr. Enrique Martinez, a highly acclaimed hepatologist based in Atlanta, who will discuss the basic information around Hepatitis A, B and C as well as at risk populations and exciting new drug therapies on the horizon. Listeners may also visit the following online websites for additional resources: www.atlantagastro.com, www.cdc.gov/hepatitis and www.hepatitisfoundation.org.
