Tom Enser has seen a lot of ugly things in his career!  As the owner of a company that teaches safety training, he is often called on by friends and acquaintances when an emergency occurs.  Tom tells of one particular occasion where he was called over by a neighbor.  A person had fallen and was on the floor with an obvious head injury, with lots of blood on the floor.  Tom’s first question was, “Has anyone called 911?”  The answer, “No, we called you!”  Seems like common sense to call 911 first, doesn’t it?  In emergencies, common sense often takes a back seat to panic.

First Response Safety Training is committed to high quality, affordable training for both healthcare professionals and family caregivers that seeks to encourage the right response in an emergency as second nature.  Tom and his wife have owned First Response Safety Training for 13 years.  They offer certification courses in CPR, First Aid, AED, Fire Safety and Bloodborne Pathogens.  First Response Safety Training and Griswold Home Care will be partnering to offer CPR and First Aid classes in the Tucker area on a regular basis.  These classes will be open to both healthcare professionals and family caregivers!  To reach Tom, call him at (770) 945-6837, or visit their website here:  www.firstresponsecpr.com.

We want to thank Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for 20 years.

Dr. Sandra Wright/Moaney Wright and Associates

Dr. Sandra Wright is CEO of Moaney Wright & Associates, LLC which is a boutique consulting firm specializing in performance improvement, professional development and business/life coaching. Its subsidiary, Possibilities Unlimited for Women is a forum for women that want to grow globally through business and personal ventures. Possibilities Unlimited for Women offers coaching, assistance with starting new businesses (i.e. business plans), and a quarterly event that includes presenters that speak on various topics such as finances, healthcare, that are thought-provoking with cutting-edge content. Jointly, the two companies offer one-stop shopping for improving performance within the workplace.

Alice and Kyu Park/Alice Park Photography

Kyu and Alice Park founded The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) in 2009 with hopes of building a community to promote and support child photographers. One of the most well-respected child photography teams in Atlanta, Kyu and Alice started their journey in the industry by founding Alice Park Photography in 2005. Although many organizations existed to support the general art of photography, Kyu and Alice noted that the child photography industry lacked its own resources that could help its professionals develop their unique skills, their artistry and their business. To help fill the void, they decided to create a formal association for professional child photographers.

In founding and maintaining NAPCP, Kyu’s and Alice’s main goals have always been to help their fellow child photographers and to serve as a valuable resource for their parent readers. Kyu and Alice agree that their favorite aspects of the association center around their members and the community – Kyu most enjoys seeing their Image Competition winners receive the recognition they deserve, and Alice loves to plan the annual retreats for their photographer members. As NAPCP continues to grow, Kyu and Alice strive to continue to raise industry standards, provide useful information to parents and support child photographers around the world.

Diane Bloodworth/Competitive Sports Analysis

In 2010, Diane Bloodworth founded Competitive Sports Analysis (CSA), a cutting-edge sports analytics company, and subsequently launched leading fantasy sports tool, scoutPROTM. Diane is a serial entrepreneur and previous founder of an IT process improvement consulting firm that was acquired in 2003. She has more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry with experience at Fortune 500 companies, government and small businesses. Through CSA she is able to combine her love of sports and expert knowledge of technology to make the sports industry more competitive and efficient into the future.

Recently, Competitive Sports Analysis (CSA), creator of one of the sport industry’s most accurate predictive tools for fantasy football players, selected The Aspire Group to develop its go-to-market strategy and research for its highly analytical fantasy sports tool – scoutPROTM. The two Atlanta companies are currently conducting an innovative study that will expand current research in the $1 billion fantasy sport industry that has largely focused on participation elements and spending habits of fantasy users. The research will support CSA’s sales approach and provide insights into how predictive analytics can make the sports industry more competitive into the future.

Michael Farris/The Aspire Group

As Manager of Strategic Consulting and Market Research with The Aspire Group, Michael is chartered with creating unique and innovative research solutions catered to client needs that will drive incremental revenue while teaching key decision makers how to utilize data to further the growth of their brand. He is responsible for all client servicing and acquisition relative to research initiatives. He has presented research on fan identification at NCAA Division II institutions at the Sport Marketing Association Conference and has worked on diverse research initiatives across a wide range of the sport industry including the Arnold Palmer Invitational, ESPN Wide World of Sports, the Flying Pig Marathon, and the University of Central Florida Athletics Association.

Mission Overview –The Warrior to Citizensm (W2Csm) mission is to help returning soldiers and their family’s transition from the front lines to the home front and deal with symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Warrior to Citizen’s goal is to help soldiers face a variety of social, economic and mental conflicts that may arise after they return stateside and ensure any assistance or counseling is offered before trouble turns into tragedy.

An estimated 370,000 military men and women return home every year after extended tours in war zones around the world. Their arrival affects another million people including spouses, children, parents, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.

Nearly every warrior is affected by the ravages of war and face challenges due to the abrupt transition from life on the battlefield to civilian life.

The Veterans Administration reports that nationally, 18 Veterans commit suicide EVERY DAY and another 40 Veterans attempt suicide EVERY DAY.

Veterans are the highest percentage of people who are considered HOMELESS,  and veterans are much more likely to become divorced, especially after the multiple deployments now common policy throughout the US military.

The Warrior to Citizen Project is specifically designed to target troops during that critical transition period in the weeks after returning home by providing high quality, focused psychological and spiritual counseling for the warrior and their family in a peaceful setting that will nurture the healing process without outside distractions.

This is accomplished with one-month long residential programs filled with counseling sessions, interactive family activities and outdoor exercise in beautiful surroundings.

The W2C Project has been specifically designed to help our returning troops to make the transition to civilian life by providing a time and space for balancing body, mind and spirit of the warfighter and military family and support systems.

Many of the troops will experience the impact of the emotional unseen wounds of war and have a difficult time transitioning along with their family back into society.  Even without PTSD, most troops need an “adjustment period” to decompress in a non-military environment and a program that provides time and space supporting “family systems” so important to the veteran.

Their family systems are highly impacted—this impact can be directly related to the stress of combat from multiple deployments and the inability to decompress from the “battlemind”. A negative force-multiplier is a lack of proactive community support/guidance, education, counseling and training of the military commanders, warfighter and families during pre-deployments, deployments and post deployments.  The Warrior 2 Citizen Project will provide solutions to these issues based upon a National Guard best practice model; and others.

And, a big Thank You to Dennis Brown, U.S. Army, retired after 30 years of service and a tour in Afghanistan, for stopping by the studio today and bringing our attention to the Warrior 2 Citizen program.

Monica Murray is a registered nurse, former airline employee, with Delta, world traveler and a inveterate shopper.  Monica tells a funny story of what lead her to open her own women’s fashion consignment store in Johns Creek.  Something about a closet that threatened to overwhelm her house…

The big surprise is how a lady with a passion for helping people and loving to find bargains and unusual things turned it into a business. It’s inspiring when you realize she started it as her first business venture and is now doing so well.  Jewelry, clothing and unique new crafts that Monica selects to help people with great talent and vision show off their crafts in a great, high traffic location and gain a following make her shop a stand out among other similar stores.

Monica does point out that consignment store owners are something of specialists, some handle furniture, others clothing for children, others women’s apparel and accessories etc.  Most know the others and can point you to a store where they know you can find something you are looking for that is not in their store.

You might not realize how helpful a good consignment store can be. It was interesting to find out how you can use it to take away some of the pain of losing a family member and having to dispose of their things.  Explaining that if you have a cause you support, by using a consignment store, you can transform things you don’t need or can’t use any longer into cash that you can donate to your favorite charity or cause rather than just give it to a non-profit like Goodwill.

A clever way to use consignment stores like hers is to host a “shopping event” with appropriate adult libations and get a group of your friends together to come in, perhaps put in an “entrance fee” for the charity and raise money for your cause or to support a school, etc.

You will find Monica to be sharp, widely traveled and very knowledgeable and happy to help. You can find her and her store in Johns Creek directly above the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce, on the web at www.monicasboutiquejohnscreek.com phone 770-623-0062 or email monicasbotiquejc@hotmail.com
