Judith MacNutt is a licensed psychotherapist and had a private practice for many years.  For several decades, Judith has joined psychotherapy with healing prayer.  In her book, Angels Are for Real, Judith pulls back the curtain on these intriguing beings and offers insight and stories of miraculous encounters and healing and hope that emerged from those encounters.  As an infant, Brad Schmidt was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. In the aftermath of three invasive surgeries, Brad was left unable to stand or even to begin to walk. The medical team told Brad’s parents that at best Brad would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Today Brad is a nationally ranked racquetball player and a chiropractor who works with law firms as an accident investigator. In Where Does the Fight Come From?, Brad tells of his life-long battle overcoming the effects of his fight with neuroblastoma, radiation, chemotherapy, learning how to walk, overcoming scoliosis – a side effect of the surgeries – and other related challenges.  What motivates credentialed/licensed professionals to choose to write about the miraculous?  What risks, if any, did they anticipate as each wrote their own book? What impact have Judith’s book and Brad’s book had on the lives of others?

Bob Drew’s passion for nature and water began during his formative years in Wisconsin. He grew up an avid swimmer, canoeist, kayaker, skier and sailor in the water-abundant great lakes region. Along the way, he spent five-and-a-half years as an engineer in a paper mill in Southern California where water is quite scarce. Paper manufacturing uses copious amounts of water, and Drew led all efforts in running the water portion of the plant while optimizing paper production and quality. Through his conservation efforts, he was able to cut water usage in half while improving production and quality. As a result, the water savings amounted to a million gallons a day, which was enough to supply 12,500 residents. He has taken that passion and know-how to get similar results in Atlanta with its infinite water challenges.

ECOVIE (pronounced ECHO-VEE) Rainwater Collection Systems, founded in 2008, has become one of the leading firms that engineers, designs and installs systems in Atlanta and beyond. Projects range from home installations where smaller basins are needed, to larger scale such as college campuses and apartment buildings. Each system is engineered for the specific project to help maximize conservation efforts.

In addition to founding ECOVIE, Drew has optimized the creation process of paper products in Latin America and Europe, as well as managed large engineering projects. His eye for innovation and his project management orientation are great assets to the design and installation of rainwater systems.Drew holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and an M.B.A. from UCLA. He is professionally accredited by the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association. He was recently elected to the board of directors of ARCSA and also is the president of SERHSA (Southeast Rainwater Harvest Systems Association). He also serves on the advisory board of DeKalb Tech’s new Green Technologies Academy.

Robert “Tim” Uzar is the Chief Executive Officer of EcoMech, LLC, opened in 2009 in Newnan, Georgia. He is responsible for providing the vision and strategic direction of the company. Under Mr. Uzar’s leadership, EcoMech, LLC., has grown into a successful mechanical contracting company with 100% of its growth reinforced by referrals, and is one of the top company’s in Georgia that is committed to creating healthy environments which serve the needs of the “green minded” clientele.

EcoMech,LLC., specializes in geothermal system installations, spray foam insulation, solar, rainwater collection systems, radiant floor heating and even air quality. As one of Georgia’s leading Geothermal HVAC systems installers, EcoMech offers a team of mechanical industry professionals, skilled and focused in energy efficient systems, an integral part of its sustainable design excellence.

Uzar is a graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, where he founded in 2001, both the Georgia Student Chapter of “MCAA” Mechanical Contractors Association of America and the Specialty Contractor’s Association. He continues EcoMech’s upward growth throughout the south east with expansions in Alabama and Florida. http://www.ecomech.net/

Steve is a founding partner of Inman solar, which is a full service photovoltaic solar system installer and integrator based in Atlanta.  Inman focuses on developing solar solutions that make economic sense and add marketing value for its customers.  Requiring a vast knowledge of solar technological advances, Inman Solar also offers detailed financial analyses for projects.

Inman Solar has been involved with some of the largest solar projects in the Southeast.  One of their latest projects is installing a 1 MW solar farm on the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.   In addition, they have also done many small residential systems and more intricate architectural projects.

Steve is a Board Member of the Georgia Solar Energy Association, GSEA.  He holds an MBA from Emory University with an undergrad degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University.

Today we explored the Atlanta Real Estate market. We opened the show with USA Mortgage’s Kim Ordono & Kelly Kirchner, and then invited WCR Atlanta President Boh Bohorquez to join the conversation . . .

Kim Ordono and Kelly Kirchner / USA Mortgage

Kim Ordono and Kelly Kirchner have recently opened a Georgia Branch of USA Mortgage. They have over 27 years of experience in the mortgage industry with roles ranging from Loan Originator, Regional Vice President, Director of Training & Development to Branch Manager. Kim entered the mortgage industry in 1992 and Kelly in 2005. Kim and Kelly have worked together for the past 6+ years and have grown to love working as a team.

The team concept is rather unusual in the mortgage industry and it’s only one thing that sets Kim and Kelly apart from everyone else. Kim and Kelly have seen a lot of ups and downs in this industry, but one thing has never changed – their passion for helping people save money. Whether it is a refinance to help save money monthly or saving on costs for a first time home buyer, Kim and Kelly always strive to give their customers the best deal the market can offer.

C. Boh Bohorquez / Harry Norman Realtors / WCR Atlanta

Boh Bohorquez began his career in Real Estate in 1978 but left in 1982 when the interest rate climbed to 22%. He worked in Corporate America as a Regional Director of Quality and Customer Service. After 22 years of this he returned to Real Estate. Ten years ago he became a member of GAR, ABR and NAR. Currently he is a Director with the Atlanta Board of REALTORS and President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS Atlanta Chapter.

Return guest, Chris Brand has been involved in helping disabled adults and seniors for as long as he can remember.  As a young man, he had a friend of the family whose son suffered from Muscular Dystrophy.  He watched the family’s struggles until the son died at the age of 19.  This gave him a first-hand look at how difficult it can be for a family to deal with the disability of a loved one, particularly with respect to independence and mobility issues.

As President and CEO of Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), Chris is thrilled to be able to assist families of disabled adults and children in accessing both equipment and services to facilitate accessibility and independence.  FODAC fills 3,600 requests, distributing over 5,000 items each year from its 65,000 square foot facility in Stone Mountain.  The retail value of all medical equipment that has been given away now totals over $60 million!

On May 5, Stone Mountain Park and Herschend Family Entertainment will be hosting one of FODAC’s three major fundraising events for 2012:  The Run, Walk & Roll.  This event is a fun and healthy way to raise money for a terrific cause.  Click here to register for the event, or SPONSOR BRAD HERE.  If nothing else, come on out to the park on Saturday morning to start your Cinco de Mayo celebration and see whether or not Brad can make it all the way around the mountain!  To find out more about FODAC, or learn about volunteer opportunities, call them at (770) 491-9014, or visit their website at www.fodac.org.

We want to thank Griswold Special Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Special Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Dallas and Atlanta for 20 years.
