We are trying another Twitter contest but if you listeners do not participate we will stop.

Here goes

1) 30 min run here in @AspenCO in shorts and a tee! Off to skin up the mtn now. I’m getting addicted to this skinning business.
2) Even after the most stressful day, a slow 60 min run leaves me feeling positive about myself and my future.
3) Getting the man Burrito Boys after the gym. So excited 2 smell it the entire way home while eating my chicken. Maybe I can trick my tummy!

Choices: @RobynBaldwin, @JeffGalloway and @lancearmstrong
Both of us picked Lance for #1, Jeff for #2 and Robyn for #3. Who do you think tweeted what. A randomly selected listener who guesses correctly on our Facebook page will win some exercise dvd.
We also talked about how the Fat Guy broke his Nordic Track that he bought in 1995.
We also interviewed Dr Patricia Riley and Bill Whalen from Ampli5. They patiently explained why their magic bracelets are better than all the other guys magic bracelets.

With enthusiasm and passion, Mark Myette serves as the president of the Atlanta chapter of ASTD, the American Society for Training and Development. What a fun and fascinating interview, especially having SHRM-Atlanta’s president Tamara O’Neill in the same studio as my co-host. In this interview Mark makes a compelling case for employers to prioritize training as a way of driving employee and customer engagement. In fact, he strongly encourages companies to actually begin to correlate their investment in training to other key scorecard metrics.

The payoff of Mark’s interview is at the end of the interview when asked if he would relate a real-life story of how training help impact and even transform lives. Listen in as he reveals a very positive, personal experience his wife had with a company who invested in training. You will be entertained and inspired.

Elizabeth Gordon goes Heel to Heel with business transformation experts Tanya Mack of The Mackworks and Henna Inam of Transformational Leadership

March 24, 2011 by angishields

stream.2011-03-21.133007(2)This week on Heel to Heel, Elizabeth Gordon, founder of Flourishing Business, talks business with Tanya Mack , President of MackWorks, LLC and Henna Inam, CEO of Transformational Leadership.

Tanya Mack is the President and CEO of MACKWORKS, a woman-owned business strategy consulting company that specializes in business transformation, change management, brand renovation and revival, and establishing a trust foundation in corporate environments.

In its first year of operation, MACKWORKS secured a diverse client roster that included a famous foods company run by a celebrity chef, one of the foremost creative advertising agencies in the Southeast, a law firm, and a national IT staffing, services, and healthcare company.

Tanya dispels the myth that a corrective course of action in an industry can only be provided by an individual or firm with experience in that industry. Tanya’s solid business experience as an operations and business development leader in small, medium, and large companies alike, allows her to analyze and create process and performance solutions for any business in any industry.

Here are just some examples of Tanya’s business transformation perspective as she brings wisdom and vision to her clients:

  • Business transformation requires expertise in getting to the heart of a matter, simplifying the situation, managing priorities, building trust along the way to be able to affect change, and holding the vision.
  • There is an epidemic of mistrust in corporate America  today- perhaps in life in America today- it is costly on many levels.
  • Trust or mistrust in business will affect speed and cost.
  • Despite this, there are techniques and methods to increase and sustain trust levels (even though people ultimately have to choose to extend and accept trust!) in an organization.
  • Symptoms of a low trust environment include: withholding information, manipulation of facts, resistance to new ideas, covering up of mistakes, duplicate work, loss of clients,  increase in lawsuits, plateau or downturn of performance results.
  • Benefits of improving trust are: improved leadership skills, increased accountability, wisdom of when to take action vs. not,  improved speed and decreased cost in finding the most effective ways to do accomplish something, improved communication, sustainable organizational strength.

She also helps organizations engage, promote and retain their women leaders. What differentiates Henna as a Coach is that she has been in the heels of many of the women she coaches. She is a season C-suite executive, having run a P&L of over half a billion in sales and run a 600+ person organization.

Is using your cellphone dangerous? Cellphones placed next to your head do increase neuron activity. But is that a bad thing? Who knows. Dr Fitness thinks there is something to this so he uses a crazy headset that looks like it is out of the movie Sleeper to give him protection from these supposedly harmful rays.   Sure he can’t hear his calls that well but he thinks he is  protecting that precious brain of his from cellphone radiation. So that makes him feel better. Other simpler things you can do are: use a headset, use the speaker system in your car and text instead of talk.

Hearthstone compressedHearthstone Senior Services was founded in 1993, and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.  Their mission is to provide quality and affordable assisted living care and services that offer value and exceed the expectations of our residents and their families.  That is exactly what Rhonda Bitner, Executive Director of Hearthstone at Irving, and her team strive to do every day.  Though Rhonda didn’t start her career in senior services, she tells us that it has been a blessing to her for the past ten years, and she can’t see doing anything else.  Liz Johnson is Hearthstone at Irving’s Resident Care Director.  She is in charge of all aspects of care for Hearthstone’s residents.  And while she downplays her role, Rhonda confides that Liz does yeoman’s work, and is an absolutely essential part of the team!  One of Hearthstone’s differentiators is their food.  Chef Mike Gantz is the responsible for truly making food something extraordinary at Hearthstone.  From the fresh ingredients to the nutritionally balanced meals to the recipes contributed by residents and their families, Mike make the dining experience at Hearthstone exceptional.  For more information about Hearthstone at Irving, stop by for a tour at 2425 Texas Drive in Irving, call them at 972-659-6800, or visit them on the web at www.hscsal.com.

Compassionate Care Hospice compressed

“You don’t find hospice, hospice finds you!”  This is the sentiment of all three of our guests from Compassionate Care Hospice.  Linde Bors, Jona Payne and Tammie Yost are all Hospice Liaisons for Compassionate Care.  And while they all have different life experiences that led them to hospice as a career, they all feel that hospice found them!  Jona and Linde are native Georgians, while Tammie is a foreigner (from Alabama).  They were drawn to Compassionate Care Hospice because this organization is dedicated to “creating and experience” for their patients and families.  Specifically, they recommend that families not wait to start celebrating a loved one’s life, and planning for that loved one’s ultimate departure from life.  Tammie noted that studies show that patients actually live longer, and their final days are more fulfilling if they take advantage of the benefits of hospice.  One of Compassionate Care Hospice’s differentiators is the Cardiac Program.  This program enables cardiac patients to stay in their homes longer, and receive certain services that may not be available in other hospice programs.  To learn more about Compassionate Care Hospice, call them at 770-220-2723, or visit them on the web at www.cchnet.net.

No one is too busy to workout. That is just a fact. I don’t care how many kids you have, how much extra curricular activities they each participate in or that you work three jobs. If the President of the United States can find time to work out so can you. Here are the tips busy people do in order to get their workout in…

  1. Forget about all or nothing. A short workout or a bad workout is better than no workout
  2. Multi -task – when you are at one of those events for your kids – instead of sitting on the bleachers reading a book – go for a run
  3. Mix it up. Don’t have time for a long run then do sprints, or intervals or boot camp drills. Just because you don’t have time to do your favorite exercise doesn’t give you permission to do nothing.
  4. Wake up earlier. Sure you love to sleep – sure3 you need to sleep. but wake up 30 minutes earlier a few times a week to get in your workout. It won’t kill you in fact it will keep you alive longer.
