On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy closed the show with personal safety expert Ingo Weigel author of the book Self Defense for Modern Times. He teaches the Revat Fitness technique. He shared some of his best self defense tips for women or the Fat Guy. Some people think that women need different self defense techniques than men – Ingo disagrees.  Ingo thinks that surviving crime requires more mental toughness than physical abilities. Size, weight, conditioning and upper body strength don’t make the difference. Ingo says that lady like self defense and anti-crime gadgets offer unrealistic guarantees. His tips were great. Number 1 – never go to the floor or ground to fight back. Number 2 – never start wrestling or grappling with your attacker. Number 3 – target groin, eyes throat. Remember you only have a couple of seconds to react and your attacker is probably stronger than you so be proactive, look the guy in the eyes  and take charge once you know a confrontation is inevitable. To learn more please go to his websites www.revatfitness.com or www.selfdefenseformoderntimes.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why you should drink more water. While it is debatable exactly how much water you should be drinking each day – it is true that a lot of people are walking around suffering from dehydration without really knowing it.  You don’t want to get dehydrated, and a lot of times when you think you’re hungry you are actually thirsty. So drink some water instead of raiding the pantry or vending machine. Dr Fitness loves to squeeze a little lime or lemon in his water to give it some flavor. He also dilutes his sodas with water as well. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share secrets how to stop emotional eating. Stress is a huge trigger when it comes to emotional eating. So the trick is to be aware when you are under stress and instead of reaching for food to make yourself feel better you reach for something else. I know easier said than done. But awareness is the first step to fixing a problem. You will have to reprogram your brain to not connect eating with making relieving stress. You must connect food only with being the fuel you need to live. Food should not be the thing that makes you feel good after a bad day or the thing that you reward yourself  with after a success.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. We had a great show this Tuesday and we were happy to welcome our regular Stephanie (Frost) back this week. Another big thank you to our good friend Stephanie Lloyd for guest co-hosting with Erik last week.

First, joining us this morning was Ivan Reyes, CEO of Chirbit a free online tool for audio sharing. People can record, upload, and share smaller recordings, from about two minutes long to two hours. A few great practical business applications are to share small daily tips with clients or highlight smaller segments of larger shows. Launching his first startup, Ivan shares that the biggest hurdles to overcome are networking and getting the word out. But thankfully, Twitter and Tweet-ups have been doing a great deal to increase business networking.

Marna Friedman, self-publisher and small business consultant extraordinaire also joined us. She talked about how accessing information on the Internet can be difficult when you don’t know what you are looking for. Her book, “The Small Business That Could,” makes the search much easier by listing all of the sites that a small business might need. She also went on to publish a book specifically for women entrepreneurs, “The Small Business That Could For Women.” The books come with space to record your passwords and tips on how to make them both easy to remember and secure. Marna lets us in on some self-publishing insight, including some common stumbling blocks regarding ISBN numbers. She also created a chapter in her book with details on self-publishing and all of the different companies that offer self-publishing services.
