BRX Pro Tip: What to Expect as a BRX Guest Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:02] Welcome back to BRX Pro Tips, Lee Kantor, Stone Payton here with you. Lee, more and more people, as we continue to expand, are being invited to come on a Business RadioX show in their community. What can they expect? Man, what can they expect as a Business RadioX guest?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:20] Yeah. When you’re a Business RadioX guest, it’s different than if you were on a traditional or legacy media outlet, because we’re long-form. We’re not trying to fit in your interview in the clock wheel, where there’s only a few minutes to get your point across and you’ve got to force fit soundbites and talking points into your conversation. So, we’re going to let you talk. We’re going to let you share stories.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:44] And remember, we’re pro-business. We’re not here to humiliate or embarrass you. We’re not investigative reporters. We’re here to support and celebrate your work. But some of the basics that I think are true in all of the studios, we’d like you to be there at the studio at least 15 minutes before the show, because we do, do a soundcheck. And that’s important to be part of the soundcheck. And if you’re blowing in late or in some cases, studio partners won’t even let you come in if you’re not there five minutes before the show, because the show happens live.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:15] So, it’s important. We don’t normally wait for a guest before we begin. If the show’s at 10:00, that show is happening at 10:00. So, get there on time. Be prepared for the mic check. Sometimes, those mic checks are video for Facebook Live or things like that. So, be ready for kind of a short little kind of elevator pitch that you can tell people about what your work is briefly before the show begins. And then, make sure that you’ve got a couple of stories that illustrate how you serve folks and really kind of tell the story, but we expect you to be here on time.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:54] We expect you to stay the whole length of time for the entire show, not just do your interview and leave. And then, we expect you to take pictures with us afterwards to commemorate the event, because you try to use the opportunity as a photo op and use the headphones and the mics and stuff like that for your social media. It’s a great way to tell the people that are important to you that you were part of a show and that your work matters.

Andrew McConnell works to help people make the most of their rentable assets.

It all started over lunch with family friends. After hearing of the work, hassle, and uncertainty my friends faced trying to rent out their vacation homes, I knew there had to be a better way. I asked why they did not just work with professionals. Their response: they had worked with professionals in the past, but tired of the high commissions & uncertain income, never being sure if they were getting a good deal or not.

Not knowing any better, I asked why there was no market to provide this insight to owners. Their response: “Well of course. If that was possible, everyone would just use that.”

VacationFutures (now Rented.com) was born.

Over the years we have iterated and evolved our offerings, constantly finding ways to better help owners make the most of their homes, and help managers deliver for their owners.

Our latest offering, Revenue Management as a Service, continues in this vein. More than just technology, it’s a team of professionals who do the difficult, but necessary work to ensure managers and their owners make the most from their properties.

About Your Host

Jane McCracken returns to ATDC as a Startup Catalyst, having started her career here many years ago. She then moved into venture capital and investment banking both in the United States and Europe before joining an early-stage, medical diagnostics company as chief financial officer.  During her time there, she raised $60 million and completed eight international acquisitions. The company was listed on both the London and Oslo stock exchanges.

Jane then worked with two venture-backed companies.  She joined the founders of an online travel company as CEO, and took it from startup to the world’s second-largest hotel booking site before Travelocity acquired it. At the request of her venture investors, Jane then joined a computer games developer as CEO and turned around the faltering enterprise before it was sold to a NASDAQ-listed games company.

Most recently, Jane was CEO of an oncology-focused clinical research company, which grew from startup to a multinational firm with $15 million in annual revenue and offices across Europe and the United States.  The company was financed through its own cash flow and was sold in early 2012 to a larger clinical research organization.

Jane continues to work with fast growing companies — in interim and full-time positions — as a consultant, board member, and angel investor. In addition, Jane has served on boards for public and private companies, as well as government-related and non-profit organizations. She is a frequent speaker and panelist at conferences, companies, and universities and is an active volunteer in her community. Jane obtained her bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and her master’s degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
