BRX Pro Tip: Mentor Challenge Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, you have a new challenge, the mentor challenge.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:10] Yeah, I think this is going to be a fun one. If you haven’t been doing any mentoring, I highly recommend investing some time, and identifying a young, up-and-coming person to mentor. It’s very rewarding for you. You might learn something. You might be able to get an intern out of this. There might be—there’s a lot of benefits for you personally and in terms of growing your studio as well.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:34] I recommend going to a university, finding somebody interested in the work that we’re doing. I recommend them being kind of more along the lines of a sophomore, junior, or maybe in PR, sales, or marketing. I wouldn’t get a senior where they have an expectation that they’re going to get a job out of it at the end. I’d rather have someone younger, and hungrier, and that isn’t quite sure what path they want to be in, in order to kind of get them—teach them about what kind of work we’re doing in the studio.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:04] And you always choose for a—you know, select by attitude and train for skills. I wouldn’t care if they had any of the skills that we need in terms of, you know, producing or hosting or anything like that. I’d like them to be, at least, comfortable with technology and social media, but I would choose for the right attitude. And then, I would train them in whatever skills I needed them to do. But I would be open to meeting with them, helping them achieve their goals, and making their dreams come true, and being a resource and a connector to help accelerate their growth as a young person that’s trying to learn.

Stone Payton: [00:01:41] Well, on to your earlier point, you’re gonna get so much out of this relationship. It’s just it crystallizes your own thinking, and it’s also just very rewarding when you are tasked to articulate some of the wisdom that you’ve gained over the years, and when you are tasked with trying to help another person, sort of, mutually self-discover some of these realities, It’s just very rewarding work, and you’re gonna get as much out of it, if not more so than the—what do you call it? Mentee?

Lee Kantor: [00:02:11] Mentee, right.

Stone Payton: [00:02:13] Yeah.

BRX Pro Tip: Personal Responsibility Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:02] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you, Lee, let’s talk about the role of personal responsibility in everything that we do at Business RadioX.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:15] Yeah, I think that this is very important for anybody, whether they’re part of Business RadioX or not. Personal responsibility and accountability are critical qualities you need for success and anything you’re doing. I think it’s important to remember that you can only control what you can control. And we have a lot of control in this business. We have a lot of levers to pull to help us grow our studio. We control who the guests are, how many guests there are. We control how many shows we do. We control how many people we ask for or recommend that we should meet. We control how many recommendations that we go to a sponsor and say, “We recommend you have a sponsor.” Those are all things we can control. So, every day, you can be pulling levers and expect predictable results if you’re pulling them the right way at the right time and the right amount. So, take responsibility, control what you can control, and get more guests, more shows, and more recommendations, and you will see that your business will prosper and grow.

Hatteras Sky is a commercial real estate development company based in Atlanta, Georgia that was created by Jason Cordon and Amy Kelly in November 2019. The group specializes in tax-incentivized and conventional development, focusing on opportunity zones, affordable housing, and historic rehabilitation.

Prior to forming Hatteras Sky, and while building his real estate portfolio, Jason Cordon was a prominent tax attorney in Atlanta with a significant portion of his legal practice concentrated on the representation of investors, developers, and syndicators nationwide in connection with tax-incentivized real estate investments.

Prior to following her passion to start a career in real estate, Ms. Kelly was a decorated attorney in Atlanta, spending most of her career at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international Am Law 15 law firm while also serving the Atlanta community through participation with various boards and organizations, including WonderRoot, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Executive Committee, LEAD Atlanta, ServiceJuris, and others.

When she was younger, Beatrice Dixon suffered with a bacterial vaginosis infection for months. One night, an ancestor gave her the ingredients to heal herself in a dream. From that insightful dream, she created the formula for a healthy, clean feminine wash. In 2014, Dixon launched The Honey Pot Company, a plant-based feminine hygiene line created with a goal to provide women with a healthy alternative to feminine care that is free of chemicals, parabens, carcinogens and sulfates. The rest is history.

With experience in pharmaceuticals, retail and natural foods, Dixon has the insight and expertise to bring the innovative concept of a plant-based feminine care system to the marketplace. Unlike mass market and conventional feminine care brands, consumers will be able to get all of their feminine care needs met under one brand as The Honey Pot Company currently offers feminine washes, wipes, pads, mommy-to-be products, and soon-to-be additional offerings in both the feminine hygiene and feminine care segments.

Today, The Honey Pot Company’s products can be found online and in stores nationwide at Target, Walmart, Urban Outfitters, Walgreens, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Wegmans and Whole Foods, among other retailers.

An empowering black female leader, Dixon has been a recipient of the Sundial and Unilever’s multi-million dollar New Voices fund; was 1 of the first 40 women of color to raise $1M in venture capital; and has been featured in T-Pain’s School of Business, BuzzFeed’s Ladylike series and the Today Show, among others.

Through her diverse background and experience, Dixon continues to make a mark in the world of natural health and retail with a truly revolutionary approach to feminine health and wellness.

BRX Pro Tip: We are Special Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, my granddaddy used to always say, “It’s a poor dog that won’t wag its own tail.” And you sort of have your own version of this because you have been known to say on more than one occasion, “We are special.”

Lee Kantor: [00:00:20] Yeah. And what I mean by that is that by being part of Business RadioX and being the Business RadioX studio partner or even the host of a Business RadioX show, you’re telling everybody that we’re special and that we have something to offer that’s different than everybody else. And what we do and what we offer, partially, is our expertise, partially is being part of a brand that is so powerful and meaningful in the communities that we serve. And because of that specialness, this expertise that allows us to differentiate ourselves from everybody else, that we don’t have competitors when we’re hosting a show. We’re the ones that are doing it on our network. We’re the only ones doing something like that, and that this is the only place that our prospects can get this. They can’t get it somewhere else.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:08] And I know, Stone, that’s important for you when you’re selling that you’d like to sell things that they can’t get anywhere else. And because of that, we can charge higher than usual fees, and we can give them confidence that they, too, will be able to persuade their prospects to pay their fees because they’re part of the platform. And anybody that’s part of the platform kind of has earned the right to sell at the rate that they sell at.

At least 3.4+ Million Live with Epilepsy in the U.S.2

National Neurology Expert Offers Immediate Steps to Mitigate Deadly Risks, Reduce

Related Healthcare Costs and Burden

GUEST:  Dr. James Wheless, Professor and Chief of Pediatric Neurology, Le Bonheur Chair in Pediatric Neurology, University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Background:

Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain that is characterized by seizures.3 Seizures can be debilitating and even life threatening.4 Just one convulsive seizure is a potentially shattering event that increases the risk of significant health consequences, including physical injury and cognitive decline.5,6,7 Although epilepsy is widely recognized, few understand it – even those who know someone with the disorder.1 And this misunderstanding causes a stigma that makes it harder to treat,1 while the number of adults and children challenged by epilepsy in the U.S. is increasing.2

Freedom from seizures is the ultimate goal in epilepsy treatment.8 Yet missed doses are a common occurrence that can get in the way of achieving it. For most people with this condition, it’s a question of when, not if they will miss a dose of their medication. In fact, 71% of epilepsy patients surveyed have missed at least 1 dose.9 And, almost 50% report that a missed dose of medication was followed by a subsequent seizure.9 Poor seizure control means a higher likelihood of emergency room visits and greater healthcare costs.10 Yet many with epilepsy may be reluctant to discuss their struggles even with their doctor.11

Dr. James Wheless, Professor and Chief of Pediatric Neurology, Le Bonheur Chair in Pediatric Neurology, University of Tennessee Health Science Center will help educate your viewers about epilepsy, including the crucial role of individual lifestyle in treatment, and advances in epilepsy management that will help people living with epilepsy achieve seizure freedom.
