ABOUT YOUR HOSTS

It’s Mike Jones‘ mission to see brands grow and succeed – to reach their full potential. He believes every brand, like every person, has DNA that’s remarkable, but not every brand knows how to act like it (and communicate it to the world). It’s not about what’s trendy, whatever consumers are demanding, or whatever will turn the fastest profit. It’s about the long game – building real relationships with your customers and your community.

Chris Stadler likes to see great plans executed. In a world looking for magic formulas, his stoic outlook tends to point people back to doing the basics really well. Accountability and measurement are his tools. In the past, Chris served as the staff copywriter for a large credit union, UX/human factors researcher at the University of Iowa and full-time teaching faculty, teaching design, copy and strategy at the University of Oregon.

CULTURE CRUSH RX Andy Maurer with The Phoenix Counseling Collective and Heidi Jannenga with WebPT

In this episode of Culture Crush Rx,  Deb is joined by Heidi Jannenga, co-founder and president of WebPT, and Andy Maurer, a licensed therapist with the Phoenix Counseling Collective. Andy introduces the concept of trauma-informed leadership and how our past experiences can influence how we work, while Heidi shares valuable insights about cultivating a culture where employees feel valued, nurtured and safe to be who they are. It’s a conversation every leader who wants to show up with more positive impact will definitely want to hear.

Andy-Maurer-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXAndy Maurer is an associate level licensed therapist at The Phoenix Counseling Collective, which is a group of counselors and consultants who are rooted in the city of Phoenix and committed to walking alongside others to know their story, come face to face with their humanity, and grow as persons. Their hope is that as therapists and individuals work together that individuals will live life more deeply, experience greater freedom, and make choices that authentically connect with how they were made. To do this, this practice helps individuals uncover the connections between where they have been and today’s struggles, unpack the impact of the past and current relationships, and explore your engagement with the divine.

Andy speaks to and trains founders, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and business leaders, equipping and educating them on the issue of trauma and its impact on their work and relationships.

Deeply integrated into the startup and entrepreneur community, Andy is seeking to create a movement where mental health issues, and especially trauma, is talked about and addressed so that founders and CEOs, as well as the individuals they lead, can receive the resources and support they need, in order to heal and transform their stories, relationships, and companies.

As a licensed trauma therapist Andy works primarily with founders, CEO’s, business leaders, adults, and couples who have experienced trauma or abuse. Having previously been a college professor, he taught courses on marriage, family, and sport psychology. He earned both a Master of Divinity in Professional Counseling from Phoenix Seminary and a Masters in Marital Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Singer and Songwriter Jenny Jarnagin

Jarnagin Music LLC is a small, independent record label that was created to manage and finance singer/songwriter Jenny Jarnagin.

Singer-Songwriter-Jenny-Jarnagin-on-Business-RadioXJenny Jarnagin is a fresh and original sound in the singer-songwriter scene. With an earthy and sophisticated foundation, Jenny’s unique style is rich in substance with matters of the heart and soulful messages encapsulated in driving minimalistic infectious grooves.

Jenny’s pure story telling voice accompanied by her classically trained piano skills are influenced by an eclectic geographical upbringing. Jenny was born an “Okie” in Sayre, Oklahoma, and raised Canadian after her family immigrated to Salmon Arm, British Columbia where she enjoyed ocean fishing with her father and doing ranch work such as welding, building fences and driving tractors!

The musical journey began at the tender age of three when Jenny walked up to her family piano and began playing by ear, mimicking lullabies that her mother sang to her. As Jenny’s musical gifts evolved she performed regularly at rest homes, local churches and other town events where she became the church pianist at the young age of seven. Immersed in music Jenny spent her summers studying and performing at The Conservatory of Music in Victoria, British Columbia, and also dedicated a stint at the Conservatory of Music in St. Petersburg, Russia, eventually graduating from Texas A&M University. From there, Jenny went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from NAU.

A prolific songwriter, Jenny released her 10th album, Bullseye, in 2014, produced by Grammy Award winner Bubba Smith, recorded at Ben Folds (RCA) studio in Nashville, TN.

Jenny’s brand new recording features the fine rhythm section of Kenny Aronoff, Carmine Rojas and special guests, engineered and mixed by John Lousteau at the legendary Foo Fighters Studio 606. Watch for it in 2019!

EdSmithSpeaks offers a series of workshops/presentations titled Leadership Tips from the Locker Room to the Board Room. Great organizations are defined by leadership. Success comes from the environment created by those in charge. As a professional athlete Ed recognized it is imperative to build a team of quality members who share the principles of the 3 C’s (Common Goal, Communication & Collaboration). Workshops/presentations are tailored to your organization. EdSmithLogo

One of Ed’s biggest passions is encouraging the youth of America to stay on the right track and never give up on their dreams. “If you continue to chase them, you never know what amazing possibilities lay ahead.” Interactive presentations specifically designed for age brackets. Ed’s strong family foundation, faith and unwillingness to never give up have sustained him in both his personal and professional life. Ed’s presentation explores faith as a powerful tool in achieving your goals.

Edward-Smith-EZ-Sports-Talk-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXEd Smith is a former two sport professional athlete. His journey through a nine- year minor league baseball career and the transition to the NFL, culminating in Super Bowl XXXIII (1998 NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons) exemplifies the definitions of perseverance and determination.

In addition to speaking to organizations; Ed works closely with local/national charitable groups and is a published author (EZ Does It: The Journey of a Lifetime, 2005). PROJECT-MANAGEMENT-OFFICE-HOURS-Dr-Harold-Kerzner-International-Institute-for-Learning-Belinda-Goodrich-PM-Learning-Solutions

E19 Dr Harold Kerzner from the International Institute for Learning and Belinda Goodrich from PM Learning Solutions

In this special episode of Project Management Office Hours Joe Pusz, PMO Joe, has a thought provoking discussion with Project Management Industry leaders Dr. Harold Kerzner from the International Institute for Learning and Belinda Goodrich from PM Learning Solutions.

Much of our hour-long conversation was focused on the future of project management and learning from our collective experiences.  Dr. Kerzner and Belinda both highlighted how Project Managers and the role they perform are evolving. We no longer focus our metrics on just the Triple Constraint.  We utilize Frameworks rather than Methodology. We have re-defined project success. Our training techniques and tools are changing to meet these new expectations. We discuss differences in project management in the US compared to abroad and challenges with teaching project management at higher educational institutions.

Belinda speaks in detail about the A.C.I.D. Approach; Agility, Change, Innovation, and Disruption.  Using this Approach, project managers are more prepared and skilled to lead organizations through growth by running programs and projects critical to overall organizational success.  She also shares how Project Management Training has become more behavioral and less technical which provides project managers with essential tools to become successful. Belinda also shares her own story as a young woman starting in a male dominated field, how that has changed and the role that has played in her life with her daughters.

Innovation and Project Management are two terms not often associated.  As a leader in our field, Dr. Kerzner is examining innovation in project management through understanding our past as well as understanding the future needs of our organizations and customers.  He shares stories of working at the beginning of modern project management and the impetus and limitations of Earned Value, also his personal experiences with his daughter as a project manager facing challenges leading  IILlogoUSpnginternational projects.  We hear how measuring success on projects has changed from on time, on budget to now over hundreds of available metrics. He shares how and why project success is now defined as “did you create business value.”

Listen in to the full episode to hear the details from both of these industry leaders.  We covered much in our hour and I wish we had more time to dig even deeper.

Tune in for upcoming shows with Project Management leaders discussing a wide range of current topics and events! Our next show will be December 6th with Naomi Caietti and Raoul Encinas.

ABOUT PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE HOURS SERIES

Project Management Office Hours is intended to provide Project Management professionals a place to drop in and discuss Success Stories, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned.  Project Management Consultant Joy Gumz has shared with us, “Operations keep the lights on, strategy provides the light at the end of the tunnel, but project management is the train engine that moves the organization forward.”

Each of us has a unique story to tell, but collectively we share a message that organizations who embrace Project Management Best Practices perform better than those which don’t.  Organizations which align Projects to Strategy perform better.  Organizations with Engage Executive Sponsors deliver better results.  Organizations which measure Project Management performance outperform those which don’t.

During our Project Management Office Hours, we hear directly from Industry leaders how to make an impact in our profession. How we, collectively, will Advance Project Management Best Practices, One Listener at a time!
