Riches Are In The Niches E120

Patrick Lange, Business Broker at Business Modification Group joined Tycoons to talk about his successful career in selling businesses. He specializes in selling HVAC businesses under 10 million. Patrick educates us about the importance of having a niche and not trying to do all and be all, but direct your expertise and skill set into a specific area/industry. Patrick gives us 3 things to consider when selling your business: 1.) What’s it worth 2.) What do you need it to be to sell 3.) Clean up your books.

Once you tune in and listen to Patrick’s entrepreneurial successes you won’t be surprised to learn that Patrick is considered an expert in the field of business brokerage having earned multiple awards for transactions and dollar volume of businesses sold.

Building the Pipeline of STEM Talent for Tomorrow’s Workforce Needs E29

It’s no secret that Arizona is an attractive place for technology companies to call home. But with more technology companies being founded locally and relocating to Arizona from out-of-state, how can we ensure we have enough qualified technology talent to fill highly technical positions?

The August 2022 episode of the Arizona Technology Council’s AZTechCast podcast featured experts including Julie Bonner, director of communications at FreeFall Aerospace; Claire Conway, Arizona STEM ecosystem programs manager at SciTech Institute; and Betsy Hargrove, superintendent of the Avondale Elementary School District. These leaders joined Karen Nowicki, president and owner of Phoenix Business RadioX, and Steve Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council and SciTech Institute, in discussing the importance of STEM education in building the pipeline of technology talent for today and tomorrow’s workforce needs.

Throughout this hour-long episode, this panel of STEM experts spoke about how the growing number of technology companies calling Arizona home is creating an intensified demand for qualified talent to fill technical roles. But to hire talent effectively, our panel of experts recommended shifting the conversation away from “developing the pipeline of STEM talent” and towards focusing on students and their career pathways.

Aligning Your Values and Professional Goals E8

Ken’s gave audience members an example of an organization that has defined DE&I practices… “Let’s assume a business is having a luncheon. Inclusion means that everyone has a seat at a table. Diversity is where the people attending (and invited) correctly reflect the community they are in or society as a whole. Equity is ensuring that the individual needs of everyone are met to enable their full participation. Meaning space for wheelchairs to pull up and fit comfortably alongside the chairs of any table, and others who use some type of mobility device are not corralled to one particular table. It means people’s food needs are met, such as addressing food allergies, or if they are vegetarian or vegan – or someone can only eat Kosher. Equity is doing what is necessary to provide for the individual needs of each person so that they can fully participate.” Vitality-career-logo

Humanity and Mental Health in the Workplace E26

Authenticity, humanity, and integrity are just a few of the words to describe the two gentlemen on this show and the direction that the conversation went in.

When it comes to pairing guests for the Culture Crush Business Podcast, we pair strategically. We tend to pair a company that has a great culture with a company that offers resources to improve culture. For this show, each of the two companies that were on the show fit into both of these categories. BOTH companies are growing a great culture while ALSO supporting companies with improving their company culture.

This conversation started strongly in the direction and importance of DEI in the workplace and supporting individuals in being their authentic selves in a psychologically safe work environment. Psychological safety is a shared belief held by members of a team that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking. It gives the employees the opportunity to disagree and still be supported in the workplace.

This was part of the bigger conversation of things that leaders and companies can do to support the mental health of their employees. Companies can’t just talk about supporting mental health- they actually need to take action on it.

We walked away with tons of examples on how to do this!!

  • Ask the right questions
  • What am I doing and what is the company doing that can be improved on?
  • How are you doing professionally?
  • How are you doing personally?
  • Have open visibility to what goes on the calendar
  • Therapy sessions
  • Dentist Appointments
  • Doctor appointments
  • A block on the calendar for self care
  • Support from leadership to the staff in being their own authentic self
  • Provide a stipend that allows them additional mental health support
  • Allowing them the time for self care during the work day
  • Letter from the CEO articulating the importance of mental health
  • Putting in boundaries for when emails can be sent to the staff

Join Carla and visionaries at the forefront, Rudy Esquivias and Bryant Powell as they walk us through what makes Apache Junction special and what it takes to bring in great jobs, housing, and so much more. This isn’t the land of storage units and snow birds anymore, it’s a vibrant, forward thinking oasis!

Shhhhhhh! Apache Junction is a best kept secret in Arizona! You’ve seen the iconic Superstition Mountains to the east of Phoenix but did you know about the beautiful community at the base? Listen in as we take you on a guided tour of this city’s past, present, and future with decision makers and folks in the know. Find out about big plans to accommodate our every growing valley!

Nestled at the foot of the Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction is strategically positioned as the eastern gateway into the Greater Phoenix metro area (Valley of the Sun) and the western entry to the Tonto National Forest’s recreation venues.

The surrounding geography and western atmosphere draw more than half a million visitors through the city annually. From the mysterious stories of hidden treasures to the people who follow them, Apache Junction is surrounded by legends.

Bryant-Powell-Smashing-Through-WallsBryant Powell started with the City of Apache Junction as the Assistant City Manager in 2001. In July of 2015, he became the City Manager. As City Manager, he assists the City Council in developing and implementing a successful strategic plan to maintain and enhance the quality of life of all those who live, visit, work or invest in the City of Apache Junction.

Prior to coming to the City of Apache Junction, Bryant served as a Senior Budget Analyst for the City of San Antonio, Texas. Before that, he served as a Management Intern with the City Manager’s Offices in Cedar City, Utah; Orem, Utah; and Orange, California.

Bryant holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Utah University and attended Eastern Arizona College. Bryant lives in Apache Junction, is married and has three daughters.

Rudy-Esquivias-Smashing-Through-WallsRudy Esquivias, a native of Nogales, Arizona, graduated from Arizona State University in 1989, with a Bachelor of Science in Design, concentration in urban planning. He went to work for the City of Apache Junction, fresh out of school in June of 1989. Rudy has been with Apache Junction his entire professional career, now 33 years.

He rose through the ranks of the Development Services Department, starting as an Assistant Planner, and working his way up to Director in May of 2022, after former Director, Larry Kirch retired. Rudy had also served as Director in 2002-2005 during a transitional period for the city. Most recently Rudy had served as Planning Manager and Zoning Administrator.

Rudy has seen the city grow from a population of just over 18,000 residents to just under 40,000 residents (according to the last census). He has also been witness to the city’s physical growth through many annexations throughout the years, many of which he personally handled.

The most recent annexation consisted of 6,600 acres of state trust land, on which the city’s first master planned communities are being developed, taking the city into an exciting new direction into the future. Hosting a range and mix of low density equestrian living, all the way to modern urban lifestyles, Rudy finds Apache Junction an ever exciting and dynamic place to be.

E35-Relationships-Matter

Relationships Matter E35

Relationships matter, in life and in business. That is the theme that ran through this episode of Collaborative Connections Radio Show and Podcast. Host, Kelly Lorenzen, was joined on-air by her client, Steve Russell, Realtor with Keller Williams Arizona Realty along with Jim Hutelmyer Loan Officer/ Branch Manager at Primary Residential and Anjali Patel with Tyler Allen Law Firm.

Here are a few takeaways from the show… Surround yourself with people you know, like and trust and life will be so much better. If you are thinking about buying or selling real estate, or have a problem with your HOA, talk to professionals who understand the complexities of the industry. Don’t get complacent. Always be marketing, growing and stretching yourself. It is ok to want to make money. That shouldn’t be taboo. Just do it ethically. They call it Conscious Capitalism for a reason. 😁

Steve-Russell-Collaborative-ConnectionsSteve Russell has worked for Keller Williams Arizona Realty as an independent real estate agent in the Scottsdale area since 2009.

The ability to make people smile is one of his strongest qualities and having this is important when it comes to finding or selling your next home.

As someone who has been selling real estate since 2007, Steve Russell knows that searching for your perfect home or trying to sell your home can be a long and draining process. So why not make it as fun and enjoyable as you possibly can?

As a top Keller Williams Arizona Realty agent, it’s Steve’s job to keep you informed and knowledgeable about the market. Keeping your family on track as we go through the process together is what he do best. His strong work ethic and good communication skills were formed during a very successful 12-year television career.

When he is not helping people make amazing lifestyle changes through real estate, you can find Steve hiking (he once hikes 100 days in row,) going to the gym or playing golf with friends.
