Trailblazers: Arizona’s Women in Tech E15

This episode of AZTechCast looks at the incredible women revolutionizing our lives, Arizona and the world, through technology. Much has been written about male domination of the tech world. Many tech companies are run by men, and female role models are few and far between. And while Arizona’s technology sector is booming, women make up just 30% of the state’s tech employment. Clearly, much more needs to be done to advance women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom.

Hosted by Phoenix Business RadioX and moderated by Arizona Technology Council VP Karla Morales, a distinguished panel of female tech leaders will join Arizona Technology Council CEO Steve Zylstra to discuss their experiences in the tech industry, share their story, lessons learned on how they got to where they are today, give advice on some of the issues to look out for, as well as discuss the women who have inspired them.

E81 Gamification with Daniel Zitter and Hamutal Weisz

In this episode of Project Management Office Hours, Daniel Zitter and Hamutal Weisz join PMO Joe to discuss gamification concepts and their project management board games. We also hear the humorous story which brought Daniel and Hamutal together to form the PM Zone.

The fun dynamic explains ideas from their book Being a Project Manager that it’s what you have to do as a project manager versus what project management is. “The nature of a plan is to change; the nature of a project is to challenge us. In order to face those challenges and be the person who can lead a project to its successful conclusion, you need to be cool headed.” -Hamutal. Laying a clear path to explain an effective project manager in any project setting is the goal.

Focusing on the principles and practices of project management, they developed the idea of PMzone. Now, PMzone solutions provides all the knowledge and tools required for many professionals in any industry at all levels. To learn more about Daniel and Hamutal with PMzone, visit www.pmzone.com

Thank you THE PMO SQUAD and The PMO Leader for sponsoring this show.

Whether a project has just landed on your desk, or managing projects is your full-time job, we’re happy to help you hone your skills through courses and games that offer practical tools to help you master project management

daniel-zitterDaniel Zitter loves project management, and he’s happy to tell anyone who will listen.

He appreciates the complexities of managing a project. He enjoys discussing it with others and teaching the methodologies, thought processes and how to deal with the questions and challenges that are sure to arise.

And he’s happy to share his knowledge and experience with clients, friends and acquaintances – because he believes deeply in what he does, how he does it and that doing it right makes a huge difference to the outcome.

Daniel is an experienced and certified project manager. He is a licensed industrial engineer and holds a Project Management Practitioner Certification “In Good Standing” from the Project Management Institute (PMI). He is also an accredited PMO – Certified Consultant, of the PMO Global Alliance, and was a member of the Jugging Committee for the 2019 PMO global awards competition.

Connect with Daniel on LinkedIn.

hamutal-weiszHamutal Weisz is a firm believer that project managers need to be stringent planners who adhere to strict deadlines and budgets, as well as free-flowing hippies who know how to dance around a problem and have enough flexibility of thought to solve things on the go.

She says “the nature of a plan is to change; the nature of a project is to challenge us. In order to face those challenges and be the person who can lead a project to its successful conclusion, you need to be cool headed.”

Experience helps a lot too. Hamutal herself is a vastly-experienced project manager who has managed multi-million-dollar IT and product development projects for different organizations around the world.

She is a senior lecturer and consultant in project management, but mostly she’s a serial entrepreneur and owner and partner of various international companies and initiatives spanning a wide range of activities.

The Power of Partnerships E8

Nothing gets done in a vacuum. In the latest podcast from Arizona ESGR, retired Army Gen. Jim Combs and National Guard veteran Patrick Kuykendall discuss how collaboration between organizations benefits employers, ESGR and our Citizen Soldiers.

Both Jim and Patrick have built impressive careers as public servants and as advocates for ESGR. They share their life lessons on the power of partnerships and how working together strengthens our national defense.

ESGR-LogoJPG

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. ESGR is supported by a network of more than 3,300 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Volunteers, hailing from small business and industry, government, education, and prior military service bring a vast wealth of experience to assist in serving employers, Service members, and their families. Together with Headquarters ESGR staff and a small cadre of support staff for each State Committee, volunteers work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve.

ESGR has served our country for more than 45 years, fostering a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. These citizen warriors could not defend and protect us at home and abroad without the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families.

ESGR has continued to adapt to meet the needs of Reserve Component members, their families, and America’s employers by joining forces with a network of other national, state, and local government and professional trade organizations. Together, We All Serve!

Jim-Combs-Phoenix-Business-RadioXJim Combs retired in 2009 from the Army after 42 years in uniform. He is a veteran of both Vietnam and Enduring Freedom campaigns. His key assignments included commanding the California Army National Guard, while deploying over seven thousand troops to Iraq and Afghanistan and serving as the Commanding General of the 40th Infantry Division which deployed thousands of troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

In October 2015 Jim was appointed as the State Chairmen of California’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, which supports fifty-six thousand Guard and Reserve members. In January 2020 he was appointed concurrently as Vice Chair Strategic planning for ESGR Board of Directors.

Jim’s team of volunteers in California strive to build and sustain a strong partnership between reservists and their employers. Jim’s committee also works to reduce unemployment among reservists and when required act as a neutral mediator to resolve conflicts that may arise with employers. His ESGR committee and appointment as ESGR’s strategic planner plays an important role in providing for the wellbeing and readiness of reservists and their employers.

PATRICK-KUYKENDALL-Phoenix-Business-RadioXArmy Reserve Ambassador Patrick Kuykendall enlisted in the US Army in 1983. He served on active duty until 1987, when he joined the Arizona Army National Guard. ARA Kuykendall served in a variety of military assignments for the next 18 years, including a deployment in support of Desert Storm.

During those 18 years in the National Guard, ARA Kuykendall was also a small business owner of several companies and multiple properties. He retired from the National Guard in 2005. ARA Kuykendall is very active in many volunteer organizations across Arizona and California.

In June 2019, ARA Kuykendall was selected as the Arizona State Veterans Manager-Workforce. In 2021, ARA Kuykendall will compete in his 15th Bataan Memorial Death March.

Diversity Representation Matters E59

Tune in to this deeply relevant and important conversation as the Tycoons welcome Tania Torres to the show. Tania discusses the lack of diversity in the marketing industry and what she’s doing to change that. Diversity representation should be the rule, not the exception. As a society, we should be showing more opportunities to our youth by better demonstrating diverse and successful role models.

Tania has a unique background that has shaped her work ethic and provided opportunities that she leveraged into a fulfilling and exciting career. She talks about lessons learned throughout her entrepreneurial journey, how she continues to challenge herself, and what the future holds.

In addition, TMC pushes beyond the numbers to see, understand, and listen to the voices behind the data. By using the voices of real community members and key stakeholders, TMC delivers content that is powerful and authentic. This messaging also builds trust with the community which is largely missing from other marketing agencies today.

TMC has a wide-ranging realm of expertise in working with local and national organizations in all three sectors: public, private, and government. With years of experience on large-scale projects, TMC pairs knowledge and expertise with a focus on the community to produce marketing solutions that work.

Starting from the ground up, TMC now has a combined experience of over 100 years and millions in capitalized annual billings.

As a Latina entrepreneur, Tania also represents one of the fastest-growing segments of small businesses in Arizona, and the fastest-growing population in Phoenix. Tania intentionally opened her office in downtown Phoenix to remain embedded in the local community. It is from this office that she has grown and nurtured her bilingual team to build culturally relevant bridges from corporations to communities.

Tania has a proven history of expertise working with Fortune 500 and 100 companies, major non-profits on a local and national level, and government entities. Within the government sector, Tania has become a leader in several key transportation projects.

Whats-your-story-E58-Exit-Planning-Institute

What’s Your Story? E58

In this episode hosts Austin and Landon, interview guest Scott Snider, president of Exit Planning Institute. Scott shares with us why Exit Planning is important for business owners to talk about and consider regardless of how many years the company has been in business or how old the owners are.

Life happens and unexpected events can take a turn on the business so being prepared and being proactive is the safest and most productive route to take when owning a business.

A high school Janitor at a young age grows into an entrepreneur, owning his own lawn care business and successfully selling his business at 24 years old, Scott’s story is nothing shy of inspiring and informative. Scott educates his listeners and approaches Exit Planning by emphasizing it is not scary!

Exit-Planning-Institute

Exit Planning Institute (EPI) is a professional education company that provides education, training, credentialing, advisor support and development, and connectivity to the business owner for professional advisors.

EPI is the only organization that holds the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) credential. The credential is the most widely endorsed and accepted exit planning credential in the marketplace.

Scott-Snider-Tycoons-of-Small-BizScott Snider is the President of the Exit Planning Institute (EPI) and the Operating Partner of Snider Premier Growth, a small family investment company. At EPI, Scott is responsible for the strategic direction of the organization along with overseeing the company’s operations and chapter development.

Since joining EPI, Scott has expanded the organization regionally, nationally, and globally, providing a transformational educational experience to advisors from all specialties across the globe. He leads his EPI Global team from the Cleveland headquarters office.

Scott Snider is a nationally recognized industry leader, growth specialist, and lifetime entrepreneur. Two of Snider’s biggest talents include market penetration and rapid growth strategies. In fact, Snider launched his first business at the age of 17, which he grew exponentially, winning accounts from larger competition, and establishing notoriety in his local marketplace.

At 24, he sold to a strategic buyer (his first “exit”) and joined forces with Chris Snider’s private exit planning and M&A firm, Aspire Management, who at the time, was looking to dominate Northeast Ohio’s exit planning space. Within one year, Scott took Aspire from an unknown startup to one of the most influential boutique advisory firms in Cleveland, citing over 13 publication pickups, a full client book, and a COI network that included every specialty from across the exit planning ecosystem.

With their passion for business strategy and serving owners and advisors alike, Snider and Snider purchased EPI, introduced the Value Acceleration Methodology, wrote an award-winning book, and effectively increased the business size by 10x. Scott Snider thrives on helping advisors learn how to educate clients, achieve market distinction, and deliver real results.

In 2018, Snider released his first book, Fishing for Value: A Short Story of Succession Planning, Business Growth, and Exit, which is a case study eBook that helps owners and advisors tackle the common problems that arise when an entrepreneur recognizes that transition is approaching on the horizon. This book was released and utilized at the 2018 Exit Planning Summit in Nashville and is now available on Amazon Kindle.
