Former Atlanta Flames Goaltender Dan Bouchard discusses his career in the National Hockey League, including being drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1969, followed by an eight-year run with the Atlanta Flames in the 1970s. He also shares the story of how he blew the whistle on NHL owners stealing from the players’ pension funds, a scandal that came to light in the early 1990’s with Alan Eagleson, the first executive director of the NHL Players Association, being sent to prison and kicked out of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Dan also shares his reasons why the Flames left Atlanta in 1980, his thoughts on the potential return of the NHL to the area, and most recently, his work with doctors studying and rehabing players’ brains so they can continue their on-ice careers.
