April Stammel is the Senior Vice President at Newport, a German real estate investment group with a focus on design and intelligent use of buildings in emerging and prime locations to create long-term value in urban areas. Stammel joined the Newport team in 2017 shortly after the launch of the company’s United States headquarters in Atlanta. In her day to day role, she oversees community development, leasing strategy and marketing for the revitalization of the South Dwntn neighborhood.
Since joining the team over three years ago, April has played a key part in the early activations and community engagement of Newport, including seeing the project progress from the acquisition phase to development, leading activations including Pop Up Row, South Dwntn’s presence at Atlanta Streets Alive and countless community tours and conversations about the neighborhood. Through this work, April has helped bring the South Downtown community together and build positive awareness for the neighborhood itself.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from the University of Florida in 2003, she attended Vanderbilt University to receive her Executive Master of Business Administration. Prior to joining Newport, Stammel served as Director of Business Development at Sixthman after working in marketing roles with the company, spending nearly 10 years with the company and seeing it through acquisition by Norwegian Cruise Lines. During her time there, she led marketing initiatives spanning all formats, built partner engagement strategy, created custom financial models and established internal success standards.
In 2014, she began as Director of Operations for Sons & Sons leading the internal transition through company acquisition. In her role, she developed and diversified new business opportunities maintaining a balance of local and national portfolios. As an (almost) Atlanta native, Stammel is honored to be working on such an important project for our city and committed to ensuring South Downtown remains a neighborhood for all Atlantans.
