Tom O’Brien / AxionBioSystems, Inc.
Tom O’Brien is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Axion BioSystems in Atlanta, GA, maker of life science instrumentation and medical diagnostic equipment. Since co-founding the company in 2008, he has led a team that has introduced two new products into the life science market. Prior to Axion, Tom was at Intermagnetics (NASDAQ:IMGC) where he held the roles of Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and President, Invivo Medical Devices. He was instrumental in the sale of Intermagnetics to Philips Medical Systems in November 2006.
Tom began his career at General Electric and has held various senior executive positions in both public and private companies, in the US and abroad. He serves on the Axion BioSystems board of directors, the Georgio Bio board of directors, and as a Georgia Research Alliance Industry Fellow. Tom has also served on the Georgia Tech Biomedical Engineering and the Georgia Tech College of Engineering Advisory Boards. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering with highest honor from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Jim Ross / AxionBioSystems, Inc.
Jim Ross was previously a product development engineer for Advanced Micro Devices and the co-founder of Nanogrip Technologies, maker of micro-scale devices used to manipulate MEMs components. He has over 7 years experience in MEMS fabrication, analog circuit design, and neural interfacing technology. During his tenure at the Microelectronics Research Center and the Laboratory for Neuroengineering, he was instrumental in producing over a dozen critically enabling technologies for the manipulation and sensing of neural tissue (many of which are patent pending).
Dr. Ross received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University and a Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Tech.
