Researchers recently asked a bunch of fitness pro’s from around the world to name the best exercise. The Fat Guy said sex. Dr Fitness guessed swimming. But we were both wrong.
Burpees or squat thrusts got an unusually large amount of votes because that exercise engages a lot of muscle groups. Squats got some votes as did interval training. But the exercise on most people’s list was….wait for it…brisk walking for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week.
The thought behind brisk walking as the best exercise was that it was easy to do, you don’t need any expensive equipment, people who walked were able to stay compliant over long periods of time, the injury risk was minimal and if you regularly walked at a brisk enough pace you can attain your fitness and weight loss goals.
