Doug Baker is originally for New Orleans. Looking at his career you would not have expected him to land in the senior services industry. He started his career in law enforcement with the sheriff’s department wth Harry Lee in Jefferson Parish. He wenton to become a special agent, working with the DEA and ATF. At the age of 30, Doug decided that he was tired of getting shot at, and wanted to do something more meaningful. So Doug net back to school and earned his MDiv degree from Coventry seminary. He’s been a pastor, a missionary and a Christian radio show host. Needless to say, we didn’t have to encourage him to talk!
Thirteen years ago, Doug’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. I t was a t this point that Doug redirected his career to work with seniors, and has been doing it ever since. Today, Doug is the Executive Director of Coventry Place, a 127 unit community of independent living apartments and personal care apartments. Coventry Place was conceived and constructed by a group that included Arthur Blank and Bernie Marcus to provide spacious, safe and affordable housing for seniors. Coventry is very proud to note that many of its residents and staff have been there for more than 20 years. In fact, their oldest resident is 106, and has been living at Coventry since it opened in 1987!
For more information about Coventry Place, stop by for a tour at 2806 N. Decatur Rd. in Decatur, or call Doug at (404) 296-0962.
