Barbara Ferrell has always wanted to help people, even from her earliest memories growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. We’ve seen that in Barbara as long as we’ve known her. About five years ago, Barbara had an opportunity to take her social work skills to Embracing Hospice. She tells us she’s home, and never wants to do anything else! Wow! Joining Barbara in the studio this morning were two associates. Kerin Fraunfelder is a Hospice Record Coordinator. Kerin went to school to be a teacher, but was drawn into hospice before she ever started teaching. Kerin has a unique relationship to Embracing Hospice, in that her father was the founder of the parent company, American Hospice, and was one of the very early advocated for hospice as a part of the Medicare program in this country. Also joining Barbara is her long time friend and new work associate, Lea Thompson. Lea has a background in skilled nursing, and has just recently joined Embracing Hospice as Provider Relations Coordinator. Lea notes that her initial impression of hospice was that it could be a “disturbing” place to work. After only a few short months, she’s convinced she made the right decision, and resoundingly agrees that hospice is about living!
