MARK KENT, Senior Director of Education and Community Engagement, joined Dana and Elizabeth in the studio to talk about the art and culture scene in Atlanta and how the Symphony engages the community in their mission.
Mark joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as the Senior Director of Education and Community Engagement in November 2010, and he is responsible for leading a team whose members develop quality music programs that positively impact the lives of students and underserved members of the community.
We talk about these programs including the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Talent Development Program, Concerts for Young People, Family Concert Series, and other education and community engagement initiatives.
Prior to joining the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Mark served as the Director of Education and Community Outreach for the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation where he and the Centre’s advisory committee developed the expansive Artsbridge education program, which has served 21 school districts and more than 130,000 students and teachers in the last three years. He also spearheaded the highly recognized Shuler Hensley Awards For Excellence In High School Musical Theater.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra plays an important role in the culture of our city, and the social impact of the musical arts creates a huge ripple effect. In this interview Dana and Elizabeth find out about all the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has to offer, its diverse and competitive spirit and what shows you won’t want to miss this season.
