BRX Pro Tip: Have A Consistent Open And Close Transcript
Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here. Our interview series, Lee, and the first topic we’re going to cover is something that you and I have talked about quite a bit. It’s important to have a consistent open and close.
Lee Kantor: [00:00:16] That’s right. Every show should have a memorized open and close that’s the same for every episode.
Stone Payton: [00:00:23] Well, I’ll give you an example. For the High Velocity Radio Show, I will typically say, “Welcome to the High Velocity Radio Show, where we celebrate top performers producing better results in less time. I’m your host, Stone Payton.” That helps me get in the rhythm, and it sets the tone for the balance of the conversation. Do you find that’s the case for you as well?
Lee Kantor: [00:00:44] Absolutely because it’s something you’ve memorized, so that you’re going to say it smoothly. You’re not going to stumble. And then, it kind of gets you in the rhythm of the episode of the show without kind of stumbling or acting like you don’t know what’s going on. And that’s — the beginning is always the toughest part for most interviewers.
Stone Payton: [00:01:01] And I think that a great way to cap it, I’ll give you another example from High Velocity Radio, I will typically say, “Until next time. This is Stone Payton, our producer, Ryan “Redhawk” McPherson, my co-host, Lee Kantor, and everyone here at the Business RadioX family saying we’ll see you in the fast lane.”
Lee Kantor: [00:01:22] And then, the show ends. And then, you didn’t have to think about it. It just rolls off the tongue, and it’s very smooth and professional.
Stone Payton: [00:01:28] Right. And it puts nice bookends on what has been a marvelous conversation. It just adds that element of professionalism, and it takes away some of the unknown for the hosts who should be able to spend most of their mental energy on the guests and shining the light on them.
Lee Kantor: [00:01:46] That’s right. And that shows you that it’s scripted at the beginning, scripted the end, but the entire show is unscripted.
