She has tirelessly worked to see thousands in the LGBTQ community successfully purchase land and real property. She believes property ownership strengthens community and gives people roots to thrive.
Colette owned Colette’s West an iconic Tucson Bar that welcomed all from the LGBTQ community and straight allies. Colette’s bar provided a safe place for a marginalized community to meet friends, network and socialize. The ’80s and 90’s LGBTQ bars were often places where persecuted people could go and feel safe. The LGBTQ community grassroots political movements and activism ideals where born in community bars. Colette’s Bars were often meeting places where pride events were planned, where people debated who was the best candidate to vote for and friendships were started. Colette has continued her LGBTQ community-work into mainstream society by marching in parades, supporting community events and promoting political candidates who believe in equal rights for LGBTQ people. She is always a proud proponent for LGBTQ rights and continues to tirelessly work towards the goal of LGBTQ equality and acceptance.
Colette is a champion and fighter for ethical inclusion of all people with a special focus on the LGBTQ community and women. She is a valiant warrior and outspoken leader for campaigns such as “We Stand With Rosa”. She practices the values she believes in by publicly supporting causes and fighting for the rights of others. One of the many causes she is passionate about is advocating for help and treatment for those who suffer from alcoholism and drug dependence. Through her work at The Haven and Pima County Jail, she continues to make a difference for those who suffer from addiction and for the people who love them.
She is a leader that has empowered women to overcome gender-biased issues and other personal obstacles by leveraging her own experiences and showing the way through example. She believes strongly in action and empowerment. Colette is a board member/volunteer for charities and non-profits and is an outspoken voice for civil rights. She inspires others to stand with her for social change. She campaigns against injustice by leading in community efforts. She has committed her strength of will and charisma to connect with others to make positive changes in the community.
Colette has generously promoted the welfare of others through her philanthropic endeavors, either by financial donations or through using her skills and talents to donate time effort and energy to community organizations and charities which then are able to thrive under her leadership and help. She has consistently shown the caliber of her heart and love of people by assisting many who are poor, addicted, and suffering. Also, by working with and giving assistance to a humanitarian organization she has been able to multiply her positive impact.
