Spectrum Autism Support Group provides support, education and resources for individuals and families impacted by autism in Gwinnett and the surrounding metro Atlanta area. Support groups, camps (both overnight and day camps), respite, social skills groups, family events, and community education and training are all offered to improve lives in the local community. They serve over 1,500 families each year, bringing hope and encouragement while connecting families.

The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation is aiming to improve the educational future of all students. As part of their continuing mission, the Foundation has launched the We Care campaign. The goal is to raise $1 million by June 30, 2020.

Community advocate Renee Unterman has called Gwinnett County home her entire life. From an early age, she learned the value of hard work from her parents. Her mother and father grew up in the depths of the Great Depression and married in 1935. Her dad worked as a plumber and steamfitter, brilliantly navigating the world and providing for a family with only a sixth grade education. Her mother raised five children from home and vowed that with a good education, each of them would have opportunities to succeed and enjoy a better life than her own. Unterman worked to pay her way through college and she earned a nursing degree from Georgia State University. She enjoyed her work as a cardiovascular nurse for many years and eventually earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia.

Nicole Love Hendrickson is a mom, social worker, and community advocate. She is no stranger to the Gwinnett community. She has dedicated nearly 15 years to serving the citizens of Gwinnett County in many different capacities and has led efforts to ensure that a diversity of voices were reflected in decision-making at all levels.

Nicole co-led the strategic grassroots and community planning efforts during her 8-year tenure with the Gwinnett Coalition for Health & Human Services. She inspired civic involvement though the Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership Institute which boasts more than 600 alumni who are ingrained in Gwinnett’s civic infrastructure. She pioneered strategies to enhance small business development through the Gwinnett Unity Group which and she served on the front line to establish the county’s first homeless shelter – the Norcross Assessment Center on Jimmy Carter Blvd.

Nicole is a bridge builder and the “go to” person for all things Gwinnett. With a global community represented by more than 100 countries around the world, she has revolutionized the way in which Gwinnett County and other local governments interact with its residents. She led the charge to build a government that is equitable, inclusive, and people-focused. She believes that this is an essential element to good governance.
