Carrie has developed this amazing full body workout to quickly and effectively tone and trim you all over. Her technique incorporates ballet, pilates and weight training. Before we got too far into the show we gave our listeners an update on the SobeFit magazine Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy Weight Loss Challenge. Week thirteen has ended and Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy have lost almost 30 pounds. Somehow Dr Fitness gained weight this week. We are now closing in on our goal of a 50 pound weight loss. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Desi Bartlett who has been teaching exercise, health and wellness for about 20 years. She has trained some celebrities like Alicia Silverstone and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. But her passion is helping moms get their bodies, and their fitness levels, back through yoga. She still teaches Mommy and Me Yoga, Pre and Post Natal Yoga and Mothers Living Fit classes in Los Angeles. But the big news is Desi is the host of Acacia’s  new Prenatal Yoga exercise dvd. Desi says that yoga is primarily for flexibility and that you should supplement yoga with some cardio and strength training. She also explained that yoga works great for women going through all three trimesters of their pregnancy but that it is important to do the yoga a little differently when you are pregnant. She also said that some instructors who have never been pregnant have a harder time adapting their exercise workouts to their pregnant clients becuase they themselves have never experienced being pregnant. Desi also shared some great tips about how to choose a yoga studio. She said to always talk to the manager and make sure the manager matches you up with an instructor or classes that meets your skill level and objectives. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on opened the show with Dr Joel Fuhrman who explained the connection between osteoporosis and exercise and good nutrition.

Dr Fuhrman insists that exercise is way more effective than drugs. He said that harmful, often unnecessary drugs are being touted as the panacea for osteoporosis. He concedes that medications can have a slight benefit in severe cases,  but for more mild cases he says they may offer minimal benefits to one’s bones and can cause unpleasant and serious
side effects. “These drugs are not only costly and unnecessary, in some cases, can be dangerous,” explains the good physician and author.

On the other hand, says Dr. Fuhrman, “with reasonable effort, you can take your bone health into your own hands. Osteoporosis can be combated most effectively without medication through proper nutrition and exercise.”

With osteoporosis occurring in epidemic proportions— it affects 8 million American women and 2 million men, causing 1.5 million fractures each year— it is never too early to start protecting yourself, says Dr. Fuhrman.
