We gave our listeners an update on our progress so far in the SobeFit magazine Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy Weight Loss Challenge. Week six has ended and Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy have lost a combined 19.5 pounds. We are now 30.5 pounds away from our goal of a 50 pound weight loss in 3 months. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Desi Bartlett who has been teaching exercise, health and wellness for about 20 years. She has trained some celebrities like Alicia Silverstone and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. But her passion is helping moms get their bodies, and their fitness levels, back through yoga. She still teaches Mommy and Me Yoga, Pre and Post Natal Yoga and Mothers Living Fit classes in Los Angeles. But the big news is Desi is the host of Acacia’s  new Prenatal Yoga exercise dvd. Desi says that yoga is primarily for flexibility and that you should supplement yoga with some cardio and strength training. She also explained that yoga works great for women going through all three trimesters of their pregnancy but that it is important to do the yoga a little differently when you are pregnant. She also said that some instructors who have never been pregnant have a harder time adapting their exercise workouts to their pregnant clients becuase they themselves have never experienced being pregnant. Desi also shared some great tips about how to choose a yoga studio. She said to always talk to the manager and make sure the manager matches you up with an instructor or classes that meets your skill level and objectives. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with Dr Joel Fuhrman who explained the connection between osteoporosis and exercise and good nutrition. You see your bones and muscles weaken as they age so it is critical to do some physical activity to counter these dangerous effects of aging.
