On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Cal Pozo, the legendary fitness and dance producer of over 300 best selling exercise  video titles. He shared some hilarious behind the scenes stories about your favorite fitness video stars. Stories about how some women don’t like sweating on camera and what he does about that. He talked about Bob Harper’s exercise dvd. Did you know that almost all exercise dvds are unscripted and are done with only a day or two of rehearsals? In fact everyone you see on the fitness video might have just met only days before the shoot. Cal talked about the fans who love exercise dvds and he believes that anyone can dance – people of any body size can learn to dance and do any of the exercise routines if they put their mind to it. Cal has worked with them all from Bob Harper to Denise Austin to Leslie Sansone all the way to Regis Philbin. If you are thinking about producing your own exercise dvd you have to contact Cal. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to exercise with cancer. Back in the day exercise with almost any ailment was frowned upon – doctors just wanted you to rest. Now the research is pointing to a lot of health benefits from being in good physical condition before, during and after your treatment. Always ask your doctor, but two to three hours of moderate activity is what you should shoot for – and choose activities like yoga, swimming and strength training. Avoid places with lots of germs like public gyms and crowded locker rooms.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to safely bring your kid to the gym and learn about strength training. Kids love going into a gym because their are lots of machines they can climb on that they have never seen before. So once your kid is at an age that your gym allows them to use the equipment you should begin introducing him/her to the gym. The adult should always demonstrate the exercise first and then assist and spot your child as they do the exercise. Start with very light or no weight until the child learns how to do the exercise with perfect form. Be very supportive and try and incorporate exercises that use your child’s body weight along with exercises that use weights or machines. And relax weight training has not been found to stunt a child’s growth.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy closed the show with Bill Cortright – this guy has gained and lost 100 pounds 3 different times and has now kept the weight off for almost 3 decades. His work early in his career was in health and military clinics. He learned how to determine which diet worked best for which person. He is doing amazing work in weight loss management in Latin America and now in the US. He is opening Symbio Centers – that help people achieve total wellness and permanent weight loss through his BioFit Program. At the center a team of nutritionists, therapists, and lab testers will work with fitness professionals to create a complete lifestyle management program. Bill found that by running extensive metabolic tests to determine how their clients handle stress they can also determine how their body is processing and interacting with food and then create a completely customized hormone balancing diet and exercise program for each individual client. You can learn more about his weight loss philosophy through his new book The Stress Response Diet and Lifestyle Program. Please go to his website www.srdiet.com to learn more.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why its better to stretch after you exercise. Instead of doing those static stretches where you touch your toes, or push against a wall, etc. try just moving around with a light jog in order to get your heart rate up.  By warming up your muscles gently through these dynamic moves you will get a better workout. Then after you exercise when your muscles are all warmed up then do all those stretches you used to do before your workout. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
