Bob Harper won for Advanced workout. Jackie Warner won for Makes you Sweat. Denise Austin won for Yoga and even Julianne Hough won something. You can go to the Fitness magazine website and sample each of the dvds to see which ones you like. What an amazing success story. Imagine having an idea to write supportive and inspirational post it notes and stick them anonymously on bathroom mirrors and within a couple of months have that simple yet powerful idea turn into a book deal and fame. That is what happened to author and blogger Caitlin Boyle with Healthy Tipping Point and Operation Beautiful

This is another one of those why didn’t I think of doing that stories. Within 3 days of posting her photo of her first note ” she had another 75 notes added from strangers on her website – and in 3 months she had a book deal – that is what going viral looks like. Some examples of what Caitlin writes on her note are:  “Scales measure weight not worth” and “You’re good enough the way you are”. You can spend hours browsing through all the other notes that are posted on her blog.  Now she’s got a couple of books, a couple of website and is inspiring people of all ages through her work.

Detox diets are all the rage – so we figured we would get the facts right from the expert. Dr Roni Deluz, from Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox fame came on the show to discuss her new book 21 Pounds in 21 Days, which  is a NY Times bestseller.

Roni said to stay away from the detox diets that don’t contain any nutrients. She says that it is critical for you to ingest maximum nutrition every 2-3 hours. In order to do a good detox you have to eliminate toxins and processed foods. Drinking your nutrients is the best way to do this – she said that chewing and digesting takes up a lot of energy that your body could better spend healing you.

Roni took us through what happens when you go to Martha’s Vineyard and experience her detox in person. In the first day or two Roni and her staff do a lot of teaching – and it does get a little tough for some people. But by day 4 her clients start to feel better. And remember a detox is not forever – after the detox you have to slowly add food (and chewing) back to your diet. She said to: eat clean, eat good fats and proteins and drink lots of water.

In summary, Roni  shared her weight loss tips about eating healthy foods that don’t require chewing and the health benefits of enemas. A good time was had by all so be sure to check out her websites www.21pounds21days.com and www.mvdietdetox.com

Ben Davis  has a remarkable weight loss success story. Ben’s video with his Coldplay soundtrack has been viewed over 1 million times. It is hard to watch and not think about signing up for a race. On Christmas day 2008 Ben was depressed and weighed 360 pounds. On that day he made a promise to his grandmother to lose weight and get his life together. In two years he has lost 120 pounds and has run marathons and finished an Ironman Triathlon.

Ben started to run – it was extremely difficult at first but he perservered with the help of his brother. Together they signed up for a 5k and started training. Ben started to lose a lot of weight pretty fast – sometimes 8-15 pounds a week at first. After the initial success of his first 5k Ben started to train for more and more challenging races. Eventually he snuck into the Boston Marathon and completed the race as a bandit. He is going to be featured in Runners World magazine in April.

Here are some of Ben’s Weight Loss tips

  1. Find an activity you love
  2. Join a group that meets a couple of times a week to get into a routine
  3. Change your diet – replace fast food with grilled lean meat and fruit and vegetables
  4. Blog to keep yourself accountable and supported during difficult times
  5. Use BodyGlide to prevent chafing

You can watch the video and read about his inspirational story on his blog www.bendoeslife.com

I did some research the other day and discovered that Lisa Lillien made her first Hungry Girl appearance on our show at the end of 2005. At that time all she was promoting was her super popular daily newsletter – that offered food swaps, calorie counts of favorite foods and stuff like that. Since then Lisa has added over 1 million readers to her daily newsletter, has written a bunch of NY Times best selling cookbooks and has now launched her own Hungry Girl TV show on the new Cooking Channel.

Lisa took us behind the scenes of her world a little bit and talked about what it takes for her to put that show on. She had to learn how to cut, cook and tell stories while looking at the camera. She produced 13 episodes in about 5 weeks. Upcoming episodes feature: chocolate, surprises and swaps, filling foods and more. You can check out that show every Saturday at 4pm or throughout the week – because they replay the show all the time.

Lisa also gave us some tips, shared her favorite music, her favorite kitchen appliance and her go to knife for chopping things up on her show. She loves pop music like Katy Perry and 80s pop has a special place in her heart. She wore the BodyBugg religiously for awhile. Her go to appliance in the kitchen is the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro and she uses Global Knives on her show. She is finishing up her new book 300 Recipes Under 300 Calories which will be out soon.

To learn more about what is happening in the wonderful world of the Hungry Girl please go to her website www.hungry-girl.com
