specializes in debunking the myths behind the health claims that make it in print and on TV. Today Robert discussed the results of several studies that show that sitting too long has a detrimental effect on your overall health. The most recent study showed that people who sat for over 6 hours a day had a higher premature death rate than those who moved around more. This was true even if they exercised. So don’t sit for long. Find opportunities to get up throughout your day. Try those treadmill desks at work like TrekDesk. And make it a point to stand up and pace during phone calls. And when you are at home watching TV try and exercise during commercial breaks. To learn more about Robert and his firm please go to
monitoring tool. It’s like a pedometer on steroids – and I mean that in that best way possible. It automatically collects data about your daily activities literally 24/7. You see it has a single 3-axis accelerometer similar to the Nintendo Wii. So whenever you move it records the movement pretty accurately. Plus you can press a button on the FitBit and check your progress whenever you want. It then wirelessly syncs the data to your computer. And then you can share your data on Facebook or Twitter. I have been using it for about a month and it is amazing how sedentary I am some days – sometimes I take only 3-4000 steps in a day. My record day has been around 14,000 steps. It really makes you aware that you have to make an effort to go for a walk or exercise. Even when I walk this 5k loop in my neighborhood that only is about 6000 steps – so I still have to do more in order to hit 10,000 steps.
