On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our good friend Carla Birnberg who answered a bunch of weight loss and fitness questions from our Twitter fans  and shared some of her best training tips. Here are some of the questions with answers – @fabfattieshan wanted to know proper running tip toes strike or heel – MizFit and Dr Fitness both said mid sole. @kwidrick wanted to know proper gym etiquette regarding correcting someone exercising incorrectly – answer is to not do it – unless you are considering asking them out but do give them a funny nickname.  Also wanted to know how MizFit motivates herself when she is not feeling motivated – Carla does it for her kid and Dr Fitness talks himself into doing it for just a couple of minutes which always turns into a full workout. @sugarwand wanted her thoughts on group exercise classes – Carla isn’t really into them but you should always pick out activities that you like and will do. @joannasutter wanted to know the self talk that Carla used to help her through her recent half marathon. Carla said her mantra was “I know I can F’n do this” and @dailykat asked the best way to integrate strength training into your routine – Carla said to make it fun and give yourself 6 weeks to see results. I’m sorry we couldn’t get to more of the questions but we ran out of time. To learn more about what she is up to go to www.mizfitonline.com

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Dr Elizabeth Lombardo who explained to our listeners that the secret to staying compliant to your fitness and exercise program is to get a smaller “BUT” She says we all know that exercise is important BUT we always come up with an excuse not to do it. She explains that the missing ingredient to your fitness or weight loss program is your brain.  You have to change how you think in order to lose weight and maintain the weight loss. Some great tips were: write a list of the pro’s and con’s of exercising vs not exercising; be mindful with your eating; don’t take an all or nothing approach – 5 minutes of exercise is better than no minutes plus the minutes add up over the course of the day. Your goal is to make exercise a daily habit like brushing your teeth – something you do without thinking that is integrated into your life. Check out Elizabeth’s new book A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness at her website www.ahappyyou.com and find your big “Why” – the motivation that will help you change your behavior for the long run!

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our good friend Robert Davis, fitness journalist and author of The Healthy Skeptic. Today he shared some scientific truths about organic fruits, vegetables and meats. Organic fruits are those grown without pesticides and organic meats have not been injected with antibiotics and hormones. Today we ask the question are organic foods worth the extra money you pay for them at the grocery store? Robert is our resident health mythbuster. His health journalism background make him the perfect person to ask and answer these questions. His book The Healthy Skeptic: Cutting Through The Hype About Your Health is a must read if you get overwhelmed with information about heath, fitness, wellness and don’t know who is telling the truth. You can trust Robert. Regarding organic foods the questions you have to ask (and Robert answers in this interview) are: Are microscopic amounts of pesticides on fruits and vegetables bad for you in the first place? Is organic food healthier than non-organic food? And are organic foods safer for you? You’ll have to listen to find out. To get his book check out Amazon.com or go to his website www.everwell.com
