My dream is that mall or grocery store park lots will have signs posted at throughout the lot tell you how many calories you’re burning if you walk to the entrance from that point. Kind of like those signs at amusement parks that tell you how long your wait is from that point. Going for a walk at lunch will burn extra calories. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with our personal weight loss coach Marta Montenegro. Marta is the founder of SobeFit Magazine and creator of the Montenegro Method.  A big congrats to Marta’s husband who recently took Silver in a Masters Judo competition that was held here in Atlanta.  Marta coached us up and has us ready to achieve our fitness and weight loss goal. We have lost over 25 pounds in total and are both highly motivated to lose weight now. Marta explained the benefit of adding strength training to our weight loss program to boost our metabolism and and really changing the shapes of our bodies. She said that we should make one small change and stick with that one until it becomes a habit then move on to the next small change. Marta also reminded us to vote for the Fittest Person. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy Stephanie Lee Mann, the pioneer of the Neighborhood Watch program. Stephanie is a community activist in the Oakland and Richmond California area and is the author of three books on crime prevention. She is launching a new program called Safe Kids Now and she explained how her Safe Kids Now program helps keep kids safe. Neighbor involvement is the key to the program and she spoke about some ways to engage your neighbors into the program. After all it is for everyone’s benefit to make the neighborhood safer. She said a simple way to get to know your neighbors is to walk the neighborhood and say Hi. She also said that playing in your yard is a great way for kids to get exercise and also meet your neighbors. She put to rest Dr Fitness’ fear of having his kid abducted when she explained that there are only about 135 kids abducted by strangers each year. She also said that ahving a relationship with the police in your area is a great investment of your time. Her books also help you deal with gangs, drug dealers and graffiti as well. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with Marta Montenegro with SobeFit magazine. She shared some great information about what is in the new How to Be Healthier issue of SobeFit magazine with Olympic swimmer Gary Hall on the cover. Marta talked about the fact that many diseases Americans suffer from are preventable if you eat right, exercise more and lower your stress levels.
