In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain that you can’t really catch up on your sleep. Sadly their is no real way to make up for lost sleep by sleeping later on the weekends. A couple of days of sleeping late doesn’t even you out for the week of living on just a few hours of sleep. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had our good friend LA Justice, author A Slimmer You come on for some weight loss tips to help you get through the holidays. She says Fat Season is coming and you have to have a plan to get through it at the same weight as you entered.  Here come all those holiday parties and the key to surviving them is to eat first before you get there – do not go to a party hungry. And then when you are at the party just take a taste. Instead of a whole dessert – just take a bite. Remember your stomach is normally the size of a one liter bottle but it can stretch to the size of a gallon milk jug. Don’t test its limits. Avoid those cheese cubes and desserts – you can consume close to 1000 calories in a blink eating those foods. Remember just because food is free doesn’t mean you have eat everything – you are not a bear getting ready to hibernate for the Winter. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why humans are built for distance running. Almost half a million people competed in marathons and about 90% of those runners have suffered from some sort of training injury. A new book titled Born To Run by Christopher McDougall talks in depth about this and that excites Dr Fitness for a couple of reasons. Number one because it is also a Springsteen song and Number two he too loves to run. According to this book the human body is designed to run long distances. From an evolutionary standpoint that is how we could best hunt for food. We were not as fast as the animals we hunted but we could track them for long distances and wear them down and when they got tired we would kill them and eat them. What makes us good distance runners is our ability to sweat and the length of our toes. The book also talks about the importance of proper footwear when running – thin soled running shoes seem to be better than those heavily padded ones. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why eating less sugar may make you less likely to get sick.  There has been some research to suggest that eating large amounts of sugar can make you more susceptible to some illnesses.
