In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share tips how make sure your leftovers are safe to eat. Never allow more than 2 hours to pass from cooking to storing in the freezer or the refrigerator. Toss all leftovers after 3-4 days. Throw away sauces and stuffing after 2 days. And you only get one reheat before you throw it away.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Do You Know What These Food Labels Mean?

Do You Know What These Food Labels Mean?

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain some misleading food labels. Food labels today sometimes don’t mean what you think they mean. For example Good source of Fiber rarely if ever means real soluable fiber. More times than not the food company is referring to the less healthful soluable fiber which they seem to be able to put into pretty much everything these days. If you see a product that says Real Fruit – don’t assume that the real fruit inside the product is actually the real fruit pictured on the label.  Sometimes the label could have pictures of exotic berries and delicious looking fruit with a big Real Fruit inside label but when you read the ingredients the “real fruit” inside is really mostly less expensive fruits like apple or pear with the good stuff buried at the end of the ingredient list. FYI the ingredients are listed in the order of most to least. Also Lightly Sweetened products can contain lots more sugar than you would expect.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite healthy taco recipe. Go with the soft flour tortilla rather than the crunchy corn tortilla. Get rid of the fried ingredients like refried beans and the cheese. Use fresh ingredients like tomatoes, spinach, garlic, grilled vegetables, grilled chicken and salsa. You can even make your own fresh guacamole and throw that in too. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite marinated vegetable recipe. Preparing marinated vegetables is a great way to get your kids to eat their veggies. If you marinate the vegetables correctly your kids will focus on the flavor of the marinate rather than the taste of the vegetable. You can take some carrot s and steam them for a few minutes then marinate them in a pan with salt, vinegar, olive oil and some mint leaves. Dr Fitness loves marinating mushrooms in olive oil, some wine, and garlic . Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some great grapefruit dishes for you to try. Grapefruits are one of the most under appreciated citrus fruit. Since the Fat Guy grew up with a grapefruit tree in his backyard we thought we would share some ways to get more grapefruit into your diet. Add grapefruit wedges into your next salad. Use the juice in a spritzer or even a margarita. Eat one after dinner as a nice way to cleanse your palate. You can even use it to make a grapefruit and cabbage slaw. Grapefruits have lots of vitamin C, anit oxidants and fiber – so don’t be afraid of the grapefruit. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some unhealthy pasta dishes to avoid at restaurants.Today Dr Fitness goes through some of the best and worst pasta choices you can make at restaurants like: Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden and Fazzolli’s.  There can be a 1000 calorie difference between a good choice and a not so good choice. Some good tips to remember if you want to cut calories at an Italian restaurant are: watch the bread, immediately ask for half your meal to go – even before they bring it out, get half of it put in a doggy bag; and don’t be afraid to order off the kid’s meal menu for a smaller portion.
