In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some easy tips to control those cravings you have for sweets. First, don’t skip meals. When you’re hungry or even worse famished, you will eat anything and everything. If you keep a food journal and track when you eat and how you feel around the time you are eating then you can identify patterns and maybe even some emotional triggers to why you have these sweet cravings. Once you identify when you are most likely to want to eat sweets then try and add more protein to the meal before those cravings occur. This should make the cravings go away. And if you allow yourself to enjoy a taste or small portion of the sweet you crave that might just do the trick as well – just don’t overdo it.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy  opened the show with Celebrity Chef and author Rocco DiSpirito.   Rocco had a lot to say about eating and health. He says that when he was growing up the dinner table was an important place for the family to bond. He said his family rarely are desserts or went out to eat at restaurants. He recommends that your family eat dinner together. He said that if you go out to a restaurant then enjoy the great food that the chef makes but just don’t eat a lot of it. He said some simple ways to get your kids to eat vegetables are: hide them in pizza and sauces; cook them properly and most importantly get them to get used to eating them when they are young. His go to ingredient is chicken stock – which he always has on hand to make soups and other healthy meals. He even had some dating tips for men – he said women love when a guy can cook a meal for their date. It is a very meaningful gesture that shows that you can take care of and nurture someone else. Rocco, shared some great cooking tips and recipes from his new book Now Eat This! Where he transforms a bunch of your favorite comfort foods into healthier, low calorie but still delicious meals. That book is of course a number one bestselling cookbook and you can find it at bookstores everywhere or online at Amazon. Rocco is also training for triathlons and had some tips about that as well. To learn more about what he is up to please go to his website www.roccodispirito.com or www.noweatthis.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share the health benefits of eating the right kind of fiber each day. All fiber is not equal. All those new foods enhanced with isolated fiber are not the best kind of fiber for you to eat. Instead eat insoluble fiber from vegetables, fruit, and nuts. or soluble fiber from seeds, oats, 100% whole grains. These kinds of fiber make you feel full, prevent constipation and can actually regulate your blood sugar. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how eating soup with each meal can help you lose weight. Every meal except breakfast unless you know of a good breakfast soup. Eating warm soup before a meal has been shown to control your appetite. It may be the warmth of the broth or the fiber from the vegetables but either way eating more soup will help you feel full and help you eat less. Use tomato, vegetable or chicken broth soups instead of cream based soups. Add lots of different veggies to make the soup hearty and healthy.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite falafel and avocado spread recipe. Dr Fitness loves him some falafel and in his recipe he uses pinto beans  instead of chick peas and sometimes he’ll even use garbanzo beans. Throw in some cumen, cheese, crushed tortilla chips, egg white and some canola oil to make about 4 patties. For the spread use tomato, 1/2 an avocado and some lime juice. Put all that in a pita with some veggies like sprouts and carrots and you’ve got a healthy meal. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
