On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy closed the show with our good friend Roy S Johnson, editor in chief of Men’s Fitness magazine. They need the nutrition to get them focused and ready for the school day. Now parents are in charge of this meal – so no excuses. If you have unhealthy breakfast choices in your house that is because the parent paid the money to put them there. So the first step is to get rid of all the unhealthy choices in the house. Next find out what healthy things your kid will eat. Write down all the ingredients that your kid likes to eat and will eat. Now build healthy meals around those ingredients. Make your sandwich heavier on the veggies and less reliant on the meat. Between the bread and the vegetables this will give you lots of fiber which will make you feel full. To add a nice crunch use crunchy ingredients like crumbled PopChips, sprouts, and cucumbers. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why there is a Jamie Oliver Food Revolution backlash. First, we are big fans of what Jamie is trying to do. Moving kids away from processed school food to a more fresh and healthful menu is a good idea. And sadly we have such bureaucracy in the school system that it is difficult to make these changes. And are we really shocked that when given a choice between stir fried vegetables and french fries more kids want the fries. Jamie should be congratulated for even trying and his methods should be implemented over a long time rather than a few weeks. And guess what, when the kids have only choices between healthy foods then they will prefer eating healthy food. And parents I don’t really care if my kid prefers chicken nuggets or pizza over veggies – our job is to feed them foods high in nutrition not just foods they like to eat.
