In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their caramel apple recipe. Caramel apples are a great healthy snack anytime. The aren’t so bad – calorie wise and they contain an apple for a health bonus. There should be more candy fruit combinations. The hard part in this recipe is fining the wooden sticks that go in the apples. You can pick any apple – Dr Fitness likes the big Granny Smith apples. You make the caramel by mixing together granulated sugar, corn syrup, hand and half, vanilla extract in a pot and bring to a slow boil. Keep stirring – slowly then add the apples. Place the apples on some wax paper and let cool. You can add crushed nut to take it up a notch or eat just plain. the plain caramel apples have about 220 calories each. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share tips on how to eat right for your exercise workouts. Just like your car needs the right fuel in order to run properly you need the right food in order to work out properly. Eat a snack of about 150 calories an hour before you exercise. This snack should be a combination of a carbohydrate and a protein – and I’m not talking about a Reese’s peanut butter cup. try some peanut butter on one slice of whole wheat bread or an apple and a handful of almonds instead. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some tips to help you prevent holiday weight gain. Holiday travel and parties make it a tough time to lose weight – so modify your goal just to stay at the same weight during the holidays. When you travel by car be sure to prepare and bring healthy snacks with you in a cooler. Cut up veggies or make healthy sandwiches instead of driving through fast food restaurants. If you are going to the airport try and eat a healthy meal before you get there instead of eating an unhealthy meal at the terminal. And on the flight bring your own healthy snack instead of relying on whatever the airline is handing out. And remember, when you arrive at your destination getting in your daily run or walk is a great way to take a break from all that family fun. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of their favorite snacks. Snacking can blow up your diet faster than you can say Ben and Jerry. So when you choose a snack to eat during that mid morning or mid afternoon lull go for something that is nutrient rich but not too filling. Remember, a snack is just a little something to take the edge off your hunger pang until your next meal. Some good easy, quick and healthy snacks are: apple slices with peanut butter; a handful of almonds, walnuts or edamames; dried fruit; rolled up turkey with a bit of avocado or some hummus with carrots.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share ways rearranging your kitchen can help you lose weight. You can use the fact that people are such creatures of habit to your advantage when it comes to losing weight. For example when you get home from work and enter your kitchen, you open the fridge and grab a cold soda. So if you move the soda to the back of the refrigerator and put bottled water in the front you’d probably grab the bottled water instead and save a couple hundred calories. So put the unhealthy snacks in hard to reach places and put the healthy snacks in the front. Do what they do at grocery store – put healthy things at eye level and put unhealthy things down low or up high in incovenient places. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
