High Heels Cabaret

“High Heels Cabaret” (Hello, Self… Episode 26)

Host Patricia Leonard is joined by Arlia Hoffman of The Women’s Agency as they announce Patricia’s new production, “High Heels Cabaret.” Patricia shared about what the metaphor of the high heel means, the mission of the Cabaret to engage, inspire and entertain, and its impact on the performers. Patricia gave all the details, and the nonprofits that will benefit from the ticket sales. She also highlighted this as an effective tool she uses with organizations as a performance-based workshop.

The live show of performers will be Friday, August 25th in Nashville at NECAT’s Peg Studios. Proceeds from the show benefit two local non-profits: The Nashville chapter of Women in Film and Television and Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television (NECAT). In addition to the live performance, a recording will be available.

Tickets are available here.

Hello, Self… is presented by Patricia Leonard & Associates  and produced by Arlia Hoffman in association with the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television (NECAT)

NECAT was formed in 2010 after Metro government and the Metro Council combined Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation (MEAC) and Community Access Corporation (CAC). A consolidated Board of Directors was appointed to provide guidance and oversight for the network.

In 2022, NECAT became part of Nashville Public Library.

With a history of community access television reaching back 30 years, the NECAT Network is committed to improving the quantity and quality of its local programming across the board.

The staff and board of NECAT are also committed to more active outreach to the entire middle Tennessee community. NECAT will utilize a consolidated Web site, e-newsletter, open houses and other initiatives to engage residents in a dialogue about programming. Additionally, all board meetings are open to the public.

NECAT is partially funded by Comcast (through its franchise agreement with Metro Government). NECAT operations are supplemented by underwriters and sponsors, fees from producers, and contributions from our viewers. Your support allows us to make public access in Nashville great!

Nashville Education, Community and Arts Television is the not-for-profit organization that operates Music City Arts, iQtv, and Access Nashville on Comcast cable in Davidson County and AT&T U-verse channel 99 in 19 middle Tennessee counties.

These local stations bring the talent and knowledge of its residents to over 161,000 households in Davidson County and streams online. The more involved you are the better these stations will be. Please send us your programs, become a producer, volunteer your time, and support us financially, so we can make our channels great like our community.

Morelia Cuevas, Rhinestone Heiress (Hello, Self… Episode 24)

Morelia Cuevas, known as the Rhinestone Heiress, joined host Patricia Leonard for a lively conversation about her famous family, her unique childhood and the lessons she’s learned. She and Patricia talked about being real, helping each other in the entertainment industry, her reflections on life, and much more.

Hello, Self… is presented by Patricia Leonard & Associates  and produced by Arlia Hoffman in association with the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

Morelia Cuevas, The Rhinestone Heiress

Morelia Cuevas, “Rhinestone Heiress”

Morelia Cuevas, known professionally as MORELIA, is  a confident rowdy, rock and roll, and the only “Rhinestone Heiress” in the world.  She is a business and broadcast professional, as well as a voiceover artist, event planner, and the best hostess in Nashville.

Morelia is the granddaughter of internationally famous Rodeo Tailor Nudie, and daughter of Manuel couture clothier to the stars. Manuel is known as the legendary fashion designer for Kings of other nations as well as kings and queens of film, music, and sports.  Manuel is still in the creative prime of his life and continues to work almost every day in his Berry Hill shop and gallery in TN, with Morelia frequently at his side.

Whenever and wherever Manuel appears publicly, especially at one of his exhibits or speaking engagements, Morelia will have helped arrange his participation. She has made it her life’s mission to keep his legendary career alive for all future generations to see and remember his fine work with fabrics and exclusive apparel.

She was born in Los Angeles and was raised in a world unlike any other. One of her favorite pastimes as a child was spending rare and precious moments with film stars like Clint Eastwood, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, John Wayne, and Gene Autry. Her youthful days often started by arriving at school in a highly decorated Nudie Mobile, causing tremendous excitement for her grade school classmates and teachers.  Most Nudie mobiles are only found in museums, but one hangs from the ceiling in Nudie’s Bar & Grill on lower Broadway in Nashville as well one owned by Kid Rock.

One of Morelia’s greatest assets is her laughter.  She is recognized and loved for her infectious happiness and smile. When in her company for even a few moments, everyone will soon find themselves feeling good and laughing out loud. Behind her smiles, she remains passionate and loyal in everything she does, for everyone she knows.

She is a star among stars.  One day she may be helping Manuel with fittings for Marty Stuart, Kid Rock, or The Rolling Stones.  The next day she may be helping organize an exhibit of Manuel fashions for a museum, like those she helped create for the Frist Art Museum, the Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Her many career credits include co-producing “Rhinestones & Roses,” a fashion show that honored Manuel by featuring thirty-six Grand Ole Opry stars who walked the runway (and performed) while wearing their own Manuel creations. At that event, Manuel was honored by CMA’s then-president Tammy Genovese with a prestigious award previously given only to recording artists during the CMA Awards network television broadcasts.

The now-historic 2006 fashion show took place during CMA Awards week at War Memorial Auditorium.  In addition to Marty Stuart, Jeannie Seely, Little Jimmy Dickens and 33 other Opry stars, Morelia helped organize models and stars to wear very special jackets on the runway that had been designed by Manuel, one for every State in America to show his love and respect for our country. That exclusive Manuel State Jacket Collection is priceless and museums such as the Smithsonian have expressed interest in exhibits of them.

Among her numerous community activities, Morelia serves on the Board of Directors for Nashville’s WIFT, Women in Film and Television.  WIFT was established in 1997 and is dedicated to advancing professional development and achievement for women working in all areas of film, video, and other screen-based media.  As a diabetic herself, Morelia also strongly supports the American Diabetes Association in its efforts to help prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Morelia brings attention to the fact that Nashville indeed has a plethora of talented people who help create images for stage, film, and television. She is loved by all who know her and is a true inspiration, especially for bringing smiles and laughter to those of us who are weary of reading and listening to news of riots, politics, and Covid-19.

Morelia will always lend a hand to others, along with a smile and laughter, and that is what the world needs now with style & grace.

Irma Herrera, Writer, Solo Performer, Social Justice Activista (Hello, Self… Episode 21)

Irma Herrera, writer, performer and activist, was Patricia’s guest on this episode of Hello, Self…They discussed Irma’s work in social justice, culture and bias, her show, and more.

Hello, Self… is presented by Patricia Leonard & Associates  and produced by Arlia Hoffman in association with the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

Irma Herrera, Writer, Solo Performer, Social Justice Activista

Irma Herrera, Writer, Solo Performer, Social Justice Activista

In her work, Irma explores what it is to be a class migrant who benefited from expanded opportunity, and she is committed to fighting the well-financed efforts presently underway to shut down these paths for marginalized communities.

She is a refugee from a racially polarized South Texas town, who fell in love with big cities: San Antonio, New Orleans, Seattle, Rome, and San Francisco. She is both urbanite and anonymous small town girl.  Mexican-American by birth, world citizen by choice, and proud speaker of Spanish, the greatest gift her parents bestowed.  The study of languages and discovering how words from different languages connect is something she finds downright thrilling. She loves comedy, mimicry, puns, and anything that gets a genuine response from people, whether laughter or even a groan.

Her multiple identities are indivisible. At all times she is all of these: Chicana, Latina, madre, lawyer, playwright, mentor, criticona, writer, stand-up comic, feminist, world-traveler, outdoors woman, avid hiker (accompanying photo taken on path towards Machu Picchu).

Her 30-plus years as a civil rights lawyer has provided her a front-row seat to the most exciting and challenging societal tectonic shifts. Living in the Bay Area’s rich multicultural milieu, allows Irma to build deep and lasting friendships and loyalty to people whose racial, ethnic, and social backgrounds bear no resemblance to hers. She has plenty to say about navigating in an increasingly multicultural world, especially when what she sees and feels makes her most uncomfortable.

Her one-woman play, a work of creative nonfiction, has been enthusiastically received by audiences and reviewers around the country. The hour-long show is a mashup of personal narrative, lessons in American history, and stories about respecting people’s names, even when they don’t sound like “real” American names. The 20+ characters Irma portrays invite audiences to experience what’s in store for a Mexican-American girl who leaves a segregated South Texas town in search of educational and economic opportunities. This work offers political commentary about life in the United States by weaving history and comedic insights into stories about names, and challenges you to consider how open and welcoming you really are.

Esther Bailey-Bass, ACC, CPCC, Founder and CEO, EBB ‘n Flow Lifestyle | Leadership Coaching, LLC

Before her journey as a coach, she was disconnected from her core values and out of alignment with herself. She was “phoning it in” day after day. She was miserable and felt disrespected, undervalued, and unappreciated.

It wasn’t until she began to question herself, asking “is this what I want to do until I retire?” The voice inside screamed “NO!”. That’s when Esther began her journey into self-exploration.

During her search, her level of dissatisfaction and discomfort grew. Her values were not being honored anywhere by anyone, including herself. In fact, her disconnection from her values didn’t surface until she attended her very first coach training course. Until that time, she continued to suffer. Anger became her go-to emotion because she felt empty, devoid of creativity, self-expression, fulfillment, or purpose. There was a chasm so deep and wide she could hardly recognize her true self.

Esther began exploring options for a future self. She talked to family, friends, colleagues, asking, “How do you see me?” Much of what they offered didn’t hit the mark and she continued to explore. She asked herself what she liked to do as a young woman. She had reached a point of deep personal inquiry, and it led her to coaching.

Once she found her calling, everything fell into place. The voice she thought she’d lost was emerging. she began to challenge authority, to question decisions and offer her insight. No more playing “good girl”, dotting “i’s” or crossing “t’s”. It was messy and she was there for it.

Today she’s different, and she cares less. She cares less about controlling others and their outcomes. She care sless about being in spaces where she’s not welcomed.

Esther embraces simplicity, nourishment, sensuality, sisterhood, service, and more love. She senses that in each one of us there’s a calling for acceptance and true belonging, free from the burden of self-hatred and tolerations. A “welcome home” sign if you will.

Sunny Brown

Sunny Brown, Comedienne (Hello, Self… Episode 18)

Comedienne, entertainer and writer Sunny Brown was Patricia Leonard’s guest and they had a lively conversation about women in comedy.  Sunny talked about her discovery of comedy, blogging, the amazing story of debuting her one-woman show, finding her audience, and many Hello, Self.. moments.

Hello, Self… is presented by Patricia Leonard & Associates  and produced by Arlia Hoffman in association with the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

Sunny Brown, Comedienne

Sunny Brown, Comedienne

Sunny’s charismatic, bubbly blonde personality always comes shining through in everything she does to the delight of her audiences, readers and fans.

Even though as a child she was always making her family laugh, and they always called her “Gracie” (a nod to the great comedienne Gracie Allen), she was a “Late Bloomer” and did not actually realize her talent for comedy until she was 47 years old.  It was at this time that she had a life changing epiphany, an experience that changed the course of her life, and she took an unexpected pivot into comedy.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama Sunny studied dance at Birmingham-Southern College under the acclaimed teachers Mira Popovich and Ruth Ammons Henry as well as voice under the renowned instructor Andrew Gainey.  She danced professionally with the Birmingham Stallions professional dance team, the “Fillies”,  as well as touring in shows with Seventeen Magazine.

She was signed with the L’Agence Modeling Agency in Miami/Atlanta which lead to working internationally by signing with the Cosmopolitan Modeling Agency in Osaka, Japan.  Upon returning home to Birmingham, Sunny married award winning professional photographer, Billy Brown.  Unexpectedly she was asked to perform the lead role in a theatre production of “Born Yesterday” and received rave reviews for her comedic turn starring as the “dumb blonde”, Billie Dawn. (She still didn’t realize that she had a gift for comedy!)

Other starring roles in comedy followed and after years of working on the stage and in front of the camera she took an extended hiatus from performing to raise her two children.  It was during this time that she began to try blogging.  She began writing for Sashay Magazine and now writes a monthly humor column for B-Metro Magazine.  After becoming an “Empty Nester” she decided it was time to return to the stage.

Sunny wrote and performed her one-woman show “Confessions of a Glamorous Mind” debuting at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre, based on the popular essays from her magazine column. Her comedic talent won her the monthly talent competition at the well respected Stardome Comedy Club and she was invited back to perform on their main stage.

Sunny joined forces with three other lovely ladies of laughter and they frequently perform to sold-out audiences as the all-female comedy variety act “Feminine Hyjinx”.  She wrote and starred in her latest show “An Invisible Woman ~ the disappearing act of a woman over 50!” and again premiered it at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre to outstanding success.

Sunny believes that laughter can unify and heel and has lent her talents for many philanthropic organizations.

Ranny Levy, KIDS FIRST! / Coalition for Quality Children’s Media (Hello, Self… Episode 17)

Ranny Levy, Founder and CEO of KIDS FIRST!, a program of the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media, and host Patricia Leonard discussed children, the media, and the KIDS FIRST! program which teaches children to be film critics. Ranny offered her thoughts on education, described the experiences of the children, the popularity of the program, teaching kids to be critical thinkers, and much more.

Hello, Self… is presented by Patricia Leonard & Associates  and produced by Arlia Hoffman in association with the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

KIDS FIRST! and Coalition for Quality Children’s Media

The Coalition for Quality Children’s Media is a national, nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization, founded in 1991, whose mission is to teach children critical viewing skills and to increase the visibility and availability of quality children’s media.

The Coalition’s KIDS FIRST! program evaluates, rates, and endorses films, digital media, TV shows, and other media using volunteer, community-based juries of adults and children from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and offers its ratings and reviews to consumers for free in a variety of ways – on our website, blogs, social media, YouTube Channel and through partnerships with other online and print publications.

KIDS FIRST! Film Critics program puts kids up front and center, reviewing the latest films and other media pre-release, interviewing talent from those shows, and exploring behind-the-scenes of programs in development.  The KIDS FIRST! Film Critics team is made up of 65+ tween and teens from across the US, plus some from foreign countries. They offer up to date entertainment news For Kids, By Kids. Their written and videotaped reviews and coverage reach as many as 7 million people per release.

KIDS FIRST! is supported by major entertainment industry leaders, teachers, librarians, media professionals, lobbyists, policymakers, child advocates, educators, parents and families nationwide. Support comes from national nonprofit organizations including the National Association of Family And Community Education, Daddying Advocacy Organization as well as publishers who republish reviews generated by KIDS FIRST! such as Kidsworld.com, Kidsville News, News-o-matic, Grand Magazine, Voice America’s Press Pass who reach an audience of over 7 million with each release.

Ranny Levy, Founder, CEO, KIDS FIRST! / Coalition for Quality Children’s Media

The invasive impact of violent and biased media on children became the impetus, in 1991, for Ranny Levy to create KIDS FIRST! / Coalition for Quality Children’s Media, dedicated to promoting and nurturing quality children’s media as a vehicle for social change. A former educator, Levy created an award-winning PBS, produced an ACE-nominated television show and managed an independent film production and distribution company in the mid 80s.

In 1991, Levy co-founded the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media and its popular KIDS FIRST! program. Levy developed the KIDS FIRST! Film Critics initiative, a program that engages young people (ages 9 to 22) as entertainment reporters. These kids attend press screenings, red carpets, press junkets, site visits and similar. They review all the latest films rated PG-13 younger and interview talent on and off the red carpet.

Their reviews are both on camera and written. KIDS FIRST! has a robust YouTube Channel with more than 4000 video-taped film reviews and talent interviews and more than 100,000 visitors weekly. KIDS FIRST! Film Critics reviews reach more than 7 million people each month through the KIDS FIRST! website, social media, YouTube Channel and radio show as well as in blogs on Huffington Post, GRAND Magazine, Working Mother Magazine, Kidzworld.com, Kidsville News and 50 additional online and print publications. KIDS FIRST! also produces a weekly radio show and a traveling children’s film festival.

Levy has written three books, “The New York Times / KIDS FIRST Guide to The Best Children’s Videos,” “A Parent’s Guide to the Best Children’s Videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs” and “The Field Guide for Young Women: Finding Your Life Partner.” She is a frequent speaker at conferences, including:

  • Kid, Youth and Parent Power Conference
  • Vice President Gore’s Family Re-Union
  • National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
  • National Governor’s Association Conference on Quality in Education
  • Head Start Research Conference
  • National Association of Family and Community Educators
  • Kidscreen

Education: University of Michigan, Connecticut College/American Dance Institute, California State University Long Beach, Naropa Institute, Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance.

Ms. Levy is mother of grown children, has two wonderful grandchildren, one surrogate son and one lovely daughter-in-law. She loves watching and reviewing films, writing screenplays, keeping fit, organic gardening, traveling, the opera, lots of other music, attending the theater and entertaining friends and family.
