Cynthia Y. Thompson, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, is the Principal and Founder of The Thompson HR Firm LLC, a human resources consulting firm in Memphis, TN. The Firm is an HRCI and SHRM-approved provider specializing in HR strategic leadership. Cynthia is also Publisher and Editor of HR Professionals Magazine, a regional HR trade publication distributed to SHRM members and HR professionals in nine Southeastern states including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee. The mission of the publication is to inform and educate HR professionals.
Thompson is a senior human resources executive with more than twenty years of senior human resources experience concentrated in publicly traded companies. She has an MBA and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by SHRM and HRCI. Cynthia received the Human Resources Management Professional Excellence Award presented by the Tennessee SHRM State Council in 2002. She served as President of SHRM-Memphis in 2006 and founded the SHRM-Memphis Executive Roundtable. Cynthia was the recipient of the SHRM-Memphis HR Executive of the Year in 2018 and received the HR Lifetime Achievement Award from SHRM-Memphis in 2019.
She is a member of the faculty at Christian Brothers University in Memphis and teaches Human Resource Management. She also teaches online certification exam prep classes for SHRM and HRCI. She is a frequent speaker on HR leadership at SHRM conferences and HR events.
