Gwinnett Young Professionals (GYP) believes that collaboration is a catalyst for success. With that in mind, GYP brought together Chambers and young professional groups from across Metro-Atlanta for an Off The Clock event like none other! The event on June 22, 2023 at the Gas South District included young professionals from across the metro Atlanta for an evening of networking, delicious food, cold drinks, and live music.

Established in 2015, Gwinnett Young Professionals (GYP) was created by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce as an initiative to champion young professionals. 2022 Moxie Award Winners: Carol Burrell, Lisa Anders, Melissa Meeker, Jennifer Fennell, Jasmine Billings, Hilda Abbott, and Jennifer Hibbard

The Gwinnett Chamber announced seven winners and recognized more than one hundred finalists at the 2022 Moxie Awards, presented by Northside Hospital. Established to honor women professionals, the Moxie Awards program welcomed its largest crowd in program history with nearly six hundred attendees.

“The Moxie Awards seek to highlight innovative and driven women leaders who are making an impact in their places of work, their communities, and their families,” said Nick Masino, President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber and Partnership Gwinnett. “Gwinnett is fortunate to have such exceptional female leaders in our community and we congratulate the winners and finalists recognized and celebrated, here, today.”

Now in its fifth year, the Moxie Awards program hosts business leaders from across the metro Atlanta region. Seven winners were selected from 100 finalists, all within key categories that focused on everything from employers who champion women in business to individuals who have exceled as leaders, innovators, up-and-comers, and community engagers. This year’s winners included:

  • Enlightened Employer Award – RudHil Companies (Hilda Abbott, Founder & CEO)
  • Greater Good Award – Carol Burrell, President & CEO, Northeast Georgia Health Systems
  • Influence Award – Melissa Meeker, CEO, The Water Tower
  • On the Rise Award – Jasmine Billings, Community Development Manager, City of Lawrenceville
  • Outstanding Organization Award – Explore Gwinnett Tourism & Film (Lisa Anders, Executive Director)
  • Pay It Forward Award – Jennifer Hibbard, CEO, View Point Health
  • Moxie Award – Jennifer Fennell, District Manager, Jackson EMC

The event included an insightful keynote address on the five traits that great leaders will exhibit in the future, delivered by renowned public speaker, executive coach, and CEO of Hathorn Consulting Group, Sarah Hathorn. Hathorn invited attendees to contact her directly for insights on her address and donated three executive coaching sessions to winners drawn from a basket at the end of the program.

The Moxie Awards is produced by the Gwinnett Chamber with the support of several community partners including Northside Hospital, Bank of America, Walton Gas, ATL Search Group, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Gas South, Jackson EMC, Northeast Georgia Health System, Primerica, Suwanee Towne Florist, Andersen Tate and Carr, Arlington Capital, CAB Incorporated, Duke Realty, E2E Resources, GBC, Georgia Power, Hathorn Consulting Group, Integrity Staffing Solutions, Mighty 8th Media, Mitsubishi Electric Classic, StarPixs PhotoBooth, Awtrey Media Group, Business RadioX, New York Life, Level Seven, Luckie, MST, and Rock Paper Scissors.

Jasmine Billings/Community Development Manager for the City of Lawrenceville

Jasmine Billings is a vibrant, intentional community builder, passionate about growth in the community through building relationships, developing partnerships, supporting youth advocacy, and strategic civic engagement & awareness. Serving as the Community Development Manager for the City of Lawrenceville, Jasmine is experienced in event management, business engagement, and is passionate about community outreach. Through connectivity and shared experiences, her drive is to educate and engage with youth and create awareness through workforce development. Her positive, initiative-driven attitude highlights her commitment to creating a holistic approach to self-determination and collective action.

Jasmine currently serves as the Chair for Gwinnett Young Professionals, Mainstreet Manager for the City of Lawrenceville, Board Member of Gwinnett United in Drug Education (GUIDE), Interim Board Chair of Impact 46, and Glance Gwinnett Committee Member.

Jasmine is a Gwinnett native, graduating from Brookwood High School, avid about the success of Gwinnett County, and the community she serves. She attended Georgia Southern University obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, and Georgia State University obtaining a Master of Science in Sports Administration, and is currently obtaining her Master in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She enjoys being a pet mom to her dog, Oliver, being with her family and friends, traveling and other activities and experiences, creating lifelong memories.

Less than a week after the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce hosted it’s inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Summit, Gwinnett Young Professionals (GYP) hosted it’s very own “Continuing the Conversation” Summit on May 26, 2021 to dive deeper into the diverse experiences of young professionals in the workplace.

The event began with a guided exercise to allow attendees to get to know each other. That was followed by a panel discussion which offered honest, positive, respectful, open-minded and productive dialogue about diversity, equity and inclusion in today’s society and workplace from a young professionals’ point of view.

PANELISTS:

Nury Castro | Administrator, Georgia Gwinnett College

Nury Lizeth Castro is a dynamic and forward thinker, intentional community builder, and healing agent. Her practice is guided by scholarship, theory, intersectionality, critical consciousness, and principles that center community and social equity. Her natural talent, unwavering tenacity, and ability to center theory-to-practice have allowed Nury to serve in various roles as a university and college administrator. Nury is currently a doctoral student at the University of Dayton and she received a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University.

Janelle King | Founder, Excel Leadership

Janelle King is an I/O Consultant and Certified Life & Leadership Coach. It is her mission to help organizations, teams, professionals, and people reimagine and redesign the way they do life and work through the power of purpose and the science and practice of industrial-organizational psychology. She is currently living out this mission as an I-O Consultant to organizations through her company Excel Leadership, where she creates purpose-driven and engaging cultures for organizations, teams, and professionals to excel and thrive in the workplace. She also serves as a Certified Life & Leadership Coach through her personal and professional development company, Life Designer University, where she coaches women to design a life and career they love.

Cole Porter | Vice President, Porter Steel

Cole Porter is the current Vice President of Porter Steel and past owner of multiple small business ventures. A graduate of the University of Georgia and a lifelong Atlanta native, Cole focuses most of his energy today on facilitating growth, development, and efficiency in his employees, work processes, and business relationships. Additionally, he places a large emphasis on community involvement and integrity in business.

Kam Phillips | Founder, The Kam Phillips Group

Kam Phillips is a certified Life & Leadership Coach and Inspirational Speaker who specializes in developing teens, students, and early career professionals into emerging leaders. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Economics from Emory University and excelling in the corporate world with firms such as ETRADE, AllianceBernstein, and JPMorgan Private Bank, Kam decided to walk away from his career in finance. Kam now uses his gifts to help students and young adults navigate through difficult transitions by providing speaking engagements that positively impact their personal development, emotional well-being, and career trajectory.

Jasmine Billings is a vibrant, intentional community builder, passionate about growth in the community through building relationships, developing partnerships, supporting youth advocacy, and strategic civic engagement/awareness. Serving as the Community Development Manager for the City of Lawrenceville, Jasmine is experienced in Event Management and Community Outreach, with a passion for Sport Management. Through connectivity and shared experiences, her drive is to educate and engage with youth and create awareness through workforce development.

Tommy Easley | Ticket Sales Director, Atlanta Gladiators

Tommy Easley is the Ticket Sales Director with the Atlanta Gladiators Professional Hockey Club. He is entering his 5th season with the club where his focus is on business development through season tickets and premium hospitality. Tommy is a current member of the Gwinnett County Young Professionals Board. Prior to joining the Gladiators, Tommy has worked with the Chicago Bulls and Cincinnati Reds.
