She said to eat more salmon, strawberries, tomatoes and edamame and drink more coffee for healthier skin. She also talked about the trend to eat fresh and eat local at farmer’s markets. Catherine shared some tips on how to cut calories from your favorite comfort food recipes. She said an easy way to cut calories is to boost up the vegetables in your meal while cutting back on the meat. She also said that you can mix and match some low calorie milk or cheese in a recipe and not really notice. But most importantly you have to learn what a portion size really is – and it’s much smaller than you think it is. She also explained that Taste of Home magazine and cookbooks feature reader submitted recipes that have been throughly tested in the Taste of Home kitchen. She also said that the recipes are so easy a husband can do it. Catherine also gave some great tips on how feed a large group – she said that assembly line serving works best -with foods like fajitas or tacos. This is a great place to get ideas for those seasonal and holiday recipes for sides and desserts as well. Roy told us that Thomas Jane from the HBO series Hung is the on the cover and he shares his super secret kettlebell workout. Their are also tips from Lance Armstrong’s trainer Chris Carmichael like: the importance of interval training; how to safely and effectively challenge your body and how to create active recovery into your workouts. He thinks guys should be working out for life rather than bulking up for looks. Such as forget the latest gadgets – go old school with push ups, sit ups and pull ups. He told the story of how Herschel Walker (who is on the list) does thousands of push ups and sit ups each day instead of going to the gym. Roy thinks regular men can learn some things from the athletes and celebrities featured in his magazine.
