On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Rick Osbourne, a former Physical Educator who wants to help kids immunize themselves from obesity by coaching them how to do a pull up. He says that if you can do just one pull up then you will never be obese. Rick’s obesity prevention strategy happened kind of by accident. Once he discovered the relationship between the ability to do pull ups and obesity he put together a program that helps people build enough strength to do a pull up. You start with assisted pull ups then slowly progress until you can do pull ups with out any assistance. He thinks the pull up test should replace BMI because it is easier for people to understand and quantify. Rick wants you to be Strong at Everything Weak at Nothing. So how many pull ups can you do? Robert explained why the soda tax might not be the way to decrease obesity. He said that there is no proof that limiting soda lower obesity. Even if kids moved from dining less soda – if they started drinking more milk or fruit juice in schools they would be consuming even more calories than soda. It seems that raising revenue through taxing foods and beverages increases the scope of big government. First they targeted tobacco companies, now soda companies, next will be chip and candy companies then who knows what is next after that. Obesity is more likely caused by the prevalence of food everywhere you turn than it is from one food or beverage. To check out the most informative videos on health and wellness go to
