E100 Celebrating 100 PMOH Episodes with Asya Watkins and Kim Essendrup

In this episode of Project Management Office Hours, PMO Joe celebrates his 100th show milestone with special guests Asya Watkins and Kim Essendrup!
Making it to the 100th episode of a podcast is a milestone worth celebrating and taking time to reflect on the people and stories shared along the journey. As successful podcast hosts themselves, Asya and Kim also share the lessons they’ve learned, the guests with the biggest impact, the guests who they are chasing, and the communities they’ve built.

Asya is the host of the Women of Project Management podcast and founder of the WoPM community. She started the community because she couldn’t find one that already existed to match what she needed. Asya shared with us, “I know a lot of people when they start businesses, they do the research and who else is out there? And I really couldn’t find it or I would have just joined it. And so, I just decided to go ahead and start it. And so now I’m just so grateful that we get to have these beautiful conversations, we get to learn. But it is something also about being able just to see other women that look like you and that are thriving in their careers and that there’s no titles, they let down those titles, there’s no ego and we share.”

We also reflected on some of our favorite shows and guests. Kim is one of the co-hosts of Project Management Happy Hour with his co-host Kate Anderson. Kim shared one recent show and a discussion they had with Tim Creasey, Chief Innovation Officer at Prosci. He shared, “I have to say, I have a professional man crush on Tim Creasey. It’s just brilliant. I just love any conversation we have with him.” He added, “It was really nice talking with him. He had a number of different topics he talked us through when it came to change management. And so many of them were really so profound that I found myself quoting content from the show to my colleagues, to my partners and then at home, which I like what you’re talking about, but it just really changed the way I think about change and the way people go through change. It was really profound for me”

From the very beginning, Vantage West Credit Union existed to suit the needs of the community. In 1955, we started in a one-room barrack at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base with the mission to help Tucson’s airmen and their families. Back then, the humble DMAFB Federal Credit Union, as we were then known, served a little under 600 Members and had less than $60,000 in assets. By the end of the 1960s, we had already grown to nearly 14 thousand Members, sowing the seeds for the rapid growth we would see in the decades to come.

Vantage West got its current name in August of 2006, when the Board of Directors gained regulatory approval to convert from a federal to a state charter. The new name better represented the diversity of our Members and paved the way for continued expansion across the state of Arizona.

In 2010 and again in 2014, Vantage West expanded by merging with First Edition Community Credit Union and the former Tombstone Federal Credit Union. Despite explosive growth, Vantage West has retained its core mission of investing in our surrounding communities. Our Members are loyal to us because we’re loyal to them. As we continue to thrive, we are able to better serve our Members and communities so they may thrive too.

Ray-Ragan-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXRay K. Ragan, MAd (PM), PMP is the Assistant Vice President of Project Management for the Tucson-based Vantage West Credit Union. Prior to joining the Credit Union movement, Ray worked in defense and FinTech, bringing machine learning, intelligence systems, along with speech and predictive analytics to enterprise scale.

Ray holds a Master’s degree in Administration from Northern Arizona University with an emphasis in Project Management and a Certificate in Strategic Decision and Risk from Stanford University. He is a credentialed Project Management Profession (PMP) and has several Agile Project Management certifications.

Ray is a highly decorated U.S. Army Reserve officer, serving combat tours in Iraq and the Philippines and multiple mobilizations around the world.

E29 Celebrating Women in Project Management with Elise Stevens Lynda Stanton and Kornelia Homewood

What an opportunity to bring together Elise Stevens, who started the #celebratingwomeninprojectmanagement movement with Lynda Stanton and Kornelia Homewood who were featured in the initiative this year.  We love each episode and all our guests, but this one was special. It was a raw and emotional, an open discussion about something which has been left unattended for too long.

In our evolving world today, it is vitally important to discuss topics which may have been off-limits just a few years ago.  Listen to Elise share why she started the initiative and also how it has taken off in just a couple of years time.

Unlike any of our previous shows, we didn’t discuss PM skills, trends, or techniques.  This episode hit at the heart of the most valuable resources in our profession, our people.  It was moving to hear Kornelia share her personal story and how she draws strength from Elise and other women within our industry.  Listen to Lynda discuss the importance of having female Executive Leaders in her career.

The magic in this show was the connection with Lynda and Kornelia to Elise.  How a leader from Australia has touched so many lives here in the US and across the globe.  How the realities of being a woman in a male dominated industry are now being discussed in the workplace.

Tune in for upcoming shows with Project Management leaders and also subscribe to the podcast on Apple Podcast, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, Spreaker or your favorite podcast platform! Our next show will be May 16th 1:00pm PST with Julia Steel and Renee Campisi.

Elise-Stevens-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXElise Stevens holds workshops for women in project management roles to reinforce within themselves their true value to their team, company and industry. Programs include Improving the Diversity of Your Project Management Team, Exceptional Women in Project Management, and Return to Work Program for Professional Women.

Elise provides a channel for women’s voices to be heard, supported and embraced with my Podcasts: Fix My Project Chaos and Age Defying Careers.

Elise works with women who have extensive knowledge, skills and passion for their career, but unfortunately the high pressure and status quo within the workplace has left them feeling emotionally exhausted; they have lost confidence in their own hard-earned skills and are considering leaving their roles. It’s time for women to dream big in the industry, and to know that they can achieve their career goals!

Proud creator of this wonderful event, Celebrating Women in Project Management creating a community of amazing women together from all over the globe!
