WHY BEST OF HEALTH?

I am a Physician Assistant who has been caring for patients for over 20 years and Family Practice (cradle to grave) is my specialty.

Following the footsteps of three generations of family practice physicians (my father, grandfather and great grandfather) this was a natural and genetic calling that I do not regret.

Given this, I have a unique perspective and it’s time to share that perspective through Ask the PA. As a health care provider, teacher, business owner, patient, and advocate for my family and friends throughout the years, it has been painfully apparent there are disconnects within the current state of health care in the US and throughout the world. It can be confusing and frankly very scary.

It is my goal though this series, Best of Health, to bring people together that are passionate about their roles in the business of health care… and yes, whether or not you want to hear that it’s a business, it is — and that’s the fact. I will introduce to you great, dedicated practitioners and people with a passion for getting the word out about their personal journeys and causes. I will provide information about navigating through a confusing system, asking the right questions and share ways for saving money and time along the way.

It’s time to create change by partnering, empowering, and focusing on the patient, their families and their providers of care. It’s time for you to take the driver’s seat rather than leave your health care solely in the hands of entities such as insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry.

Stay tuned. Here’s to your Best of Health.

Top Docs Radio on Midtown Business RadioX Features Dr. Ellie Campbell – Business RadioX

October 22, 2015 by angishields

ATLANTA, GA–(Marketwired – October 22, 2015) – On September 22, 2015, Top Docs Radio welcomed to the studio Dr. Ellie Campbell with Campbell Family Medicine in Cumming, GA. Host CW Hall sat down with Dr. Campbell to discuss the topic of pre-diabetes.

Dr. Ellie Campbell is the founder, owner, and sole physician with Campbell Family Medicine. She is passionate about removing unnecessary pharmaceutical drugs, enhancing the body’s own self-healing capacity and allowing the most graceful aging process that optimal nutrition, supplements, and exercise can provide. Campbell Family Medicine operates as a “membership” care model, where patients receive care in a flat-rate fee membership practice. They limit the number of active patients they serve to provide the best care for their patients.

Dr. Campbell is particularly interested in helping patients with pre-diabetes, a condition in which a patient’s blood sugar level is higher than normal but not yet high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Without intervention, pre-diabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less.

“During this phase it’s actually possible to reverse the condition through diet and exercise,” said Dr. Campbell. “But many physicians haven’t yet been educated that they need to be concerned with glucose levels that don’t exceed “normal” limits. This means that patients need to be advocates for themselves and their loved ones.”

Dr. Campbell went on to explain that it is well-known that diabetes leads to a range of chronic and often, deadly, diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, stroke, and more. While it is often challenging to make life-style changes, when patients are aware of the risks, it can become more easy to do so.

To hear the full discussion with Dr. Campbell regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pre-diabetes, tune in to this episode of Top Docs Radio.

Dr. Ellie Campbell
Dr. Ellie Campbell talks pre-diabetes

Pre-diabetes

This week I featured a long-time friend of the show, Dr. Ellie Campbell, of Campbell Family Medicine, located in Cumming, GA.  We talked about a topic I am hopeful many of our followers will both listen to and share:  Pre-diabetes.

How many times have you gone for your annual check-up and been told, “Your labs are normal,” when your fasting blood glucose is >80mg/dl?  Those “normal” results could actually be a red flag that you have Pre-diabetes.

During this phase it’s actually possible to reverse the condition through diet and exercise.  But, as Ellie described, many physicians haven’t yet been educated that they need to be concerned with glucose levels that don’t exceed “normal” limits.  This means that we, as patients, need to be advocates for ourselves and our loved ones.

It is well-known that diabetes leads to a range of chronic and often, deadly, diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, stroke, and more.  While we also know it is often challenging to make life-style changes, when you are aware of the risks, it can become more easy to do so.

I am pleased Ellie sat down with us to talk about pre-diabetes, a problem many people can actually do something about if they’re willing to make some of the simple changes she recommends.
